Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Monday, 1/7/08
Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

    1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

    3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

    5. And here’s the fine print:
    • One entry per household and IP address.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Is this contest to determine who can accumulate the most units, or the highest winning percentage on at least fifteen picks?

Manhattan(+8) Here is my ridiculous argument Manhattan lost to Niagara by 10. Marist lost by 9. therefore the line should be 1 so I took the extra 7 points. hahaha shoot me now.

Denver(+6) Denver is playing tough ball and have the speed to match up with phoenix. I will take the points.

looks like units but the highest % is the tiebreaker.

            Butler @ Loyola Chicago

            509 Butler -11

Chicago Loyola isn't playin too impressive ball right now. Expecting Butler to win by double digits.

San Antonio Spurs @ Golden State Warriors

            504 Warriors -2.5

I like the Warriors here as a small home fave. This is a small number to lay on a very solid home team that usually outscores their opponents at home with a decent margin. The Spurs are good, but has been quite average on the road this season and Tim Duncan might be slightly banged up hurting his knee yesterday.

Denver +7 - Suns just dont seem to have that killer instinct, think taking the points is the right side here.

Golden St over 205.5 - Hoping a low total here for GS will make for an easy over.

                    Phoenix -7

Denver should start to fade in the 2nd half as they are playing back-to-back. Either Carmelo or AI will struggle which will cause Denver to struggle offensively. Suns win by double digits.

                    Manhattan +8

I just like the number and wouldn't be surprised to see Manhattan take this game down to the final minutes. If Marist wins it won't be by more than 5 points.

The guy on the front page said so, and he had some pretty good reasoning.

The Citadel +19.5 vs UNC Greensboro
The Citadel has really improved. They aren't losing by 40 anymore.

Spurs, will shut down GS tonight, and will be avenging a loss.

Denver, Phoenix has looked like 1/2 of the team it could be too often this season, and tongith Denver will keep pace and win, with Carmello finally posting a big night.

Denver/Phoenix over 227.5 - A huge total, where one bad scoring quarter pretty much cashes the under, but I'm hoping Denver's D is not what it usually is since they will be coming off playing last night, and hoping they can keep up with the suns for a while on the offensive end and push this one over the high number.

SA/GSW under 205.5 - Spurs make teams play their style, so hoping this is similar to their last meeting and stays under the number.

Very good home team against an average road team.

                                  SE Missouri St. -3.5

Much better offense than Murray St will prevail.

Butler -11: Loyola without Young tonight, Butler rolls by 15.

DEN/PHX under 227.5: 228 is a little too generous IMHO, Denver on the tail end of a back to back, tonight should be a track meet, but I hope to see a final score of something like 113-104 (hopefully it wont be one of those 73-61 halftime scores )

Suns/Nuggets under 2271/2, These guys can score but this is a huge number, and dear lord please dont let there be overtime.

Spurs/GS -- Spurs +3, Golden State is not looking good as of late and the spurs have a lot of their players back, I think the spurs sweep the floor with Golden State.

denv/nuggets under 227.5 - i no both teams r high scoring, and ya it mite break 220 but not 227, denv put up some points last nite so i dnt no if they can put up 110 which will b needed 2 cover this total

denver +7.5(gonna wait till later 2 put this in 2 see if i can get +8) - denver is 4-1 last 5 on 0 days rest and their covering all the away spreads they've had 2 deal with basically especially on the road. spurs r 1-4 last 5 being a 5-10 point favorite so no reason it wont continue 2nite. also they r 1-7 both home and home favorites. take denver for sure

UL Monroe +10 : These 2 teams went to OT in their last meeting, with the Mean Green prevailing. I see the Warhawks keeping it close again, their 3 guard combo of Hooper,Brown, and Payne are all veterans and each is averaging around 15 a game. the Mean Green are led by their veteran forwards Williams,Wooden and Stewart, but I see the Warhawks keeping the Mean Green's freshman sensation J.White in check.

SE. Mizzu St. -3.5 : the Racers are racing in the opposite direction this season, they lost 4 straight on the road before coming home to squeak a win by Tenn St, now they travel back on the road to face the hottest team in Conference. Yes, the Redhawks have been trounced by the likes of Xavier, Tulsa and Bradley, but they were all on the road, at home they are perfect on the season.

Phoenix -7. Not only is Denver playing back-to-back, but its their fourth game in five nights and all have involved travel. Suns have covered last four home games against Denver, so they don't take them lightly, and they're coming off a bad loss at home, so should be more focussed.

Golden State -2.5 or 3, or whatever is offered. Warriors beat the Spurs by 12 a month ago, at home with the same line. Spurs too Jekyll and Hyde for my taste, and have dropped their last three road games as 2-2.5 pt dogs.

******* LT, if no point-spread is being offered for the SA/GS game, then put me down for an under play on the Den/Phx game.

LOYOLA-CHICAGO +11: Butler is in the Top 20, but remember that their only loss came as a conference road favorite at Wright State, the same role they are in here, only bigger. Yes, Loyola is just 5-9 overall, but they are 4-3 at home and should get better as they work Mississippi transfer Justin Cerasoli more into the offense. Also, remember that the Ramblers went on the road an upset Butler last season.

MURRAY STATE +3.5: I actually like Murray State to win this game straight up. Home court has meant nothing in this head-to-head series with the road team going 5-1 SU in the last six meetings and 8-1-1 ATS in the last 10 encounters. The Racers are clicking offensively right now, scoring 92 and 80 points respectively in their last two games, and they went 9-of-15 from three-point land in their win over Tennessee State on Saturday. Yes, SE Missouri team is 6-0 SU at home, but they have been a very good home team for several years now, yet that has never deterred Murray State.

                                                          Guys,

Golden State is -3 over San Antonio.

I don't add late lines that are put up after I post them in the 11:00am hour, but this one was my mistake, as I accidentally deleted that line when I posted original lines. It is now fixed. If anyone that posted a parlay BEFORE THIS POST ONLY would like to substitute that game for one of your games, you may do so in a repost.

Most units. Tiebreaker is the higher winning percenatge on a GAME-BY-GAME basis. Those are the extra standings on the bottom.

Lebron sank our ship yesterday, but we are looking to set sail towards a Winner today!

                                                              Denver +7.0
Analysis: Before we start, let’s get this love affair out of the way for Phoenix: Phoenix is awesome, Nash should run for president, and purple is a super-manly team color! Alright, now that we are done with that, let’s talk about the game, which involves TWO teams. Nothing new here: Denver is GOOD! They have won 3 straight and trust me it was definitely no fluke. Sure Phoenix is 23-10 and #1 in the Pacific, but little ol’ Denver is 21-12 and #1 in the Northwest. Does that sound like a huge mismatch to you? I THINK NOT! Oh wait, but Phoenix has home field advantage. My response: BIG DEAL! Phoenix is a respectable 10-4 at home, but that is all it is: respectable, not elite. Meanwhile, Denver is a respectable 7-7 on the road. So even with just that it is looking pretty good, but we even get a kicker to help us out: Raja Bell left the last game (in which the Suns lost) with flu symptoms and is questionable. Even if he plays, you can bet that he will be dragging. And to finish it of: Mr. Stoudemire didn’t feel like going to practice Sunday and a team suspension is possible. Take the Nuggets and the Points in this one.

                                                              Golden State -3.0
Analysis: You need a healthy team to run with Golden State in Oracle Arena and the Spurs just don’t have it. Ginobli is still questionable and if he does play, he will be playing with a sprained finger. In addition to that, it looks like Duncan is going to play, but the guy has swelling in his knee! Also, Brent Barry is still out and he won’t be supplying any 3 point tri-fectas tonight. In addition to all this, Golden State is a winning team at home (8-7) and San Antonio is a losing away team (6-7). Golden State has lost three of their last five, but they were to three of the best teams in the league (Denver, New Orleans, and Dallas). Golden State isn’t getting a lot of respect here by the bookie, but I am going to give respect where it is due. Take Golden State to cover the spread here.
