Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Friday, 1/4/08

Listen up, basketball experts. Starting Wednesday (Jan 2) we will commence with a Hoops Parlay Contest with the monthly grand prize a 22” widescreen LCD monitor. The rules are simple:

1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading. Both NBA and NCAA games included.

3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up, doesn’t have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you’re making your play. Here’s a THREAD from last year’s contest to be used for an example.

5. And here’s the fine print:

• One entry per household and IP address.
  
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
  
• Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays needed to be eligible for monthly prize.
  
• Tiebreaker - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
  
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
  
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Houston Rockets @ Orlando Magic - (Orlando -4) - Rockets don't have Tracy McGrady and the Orlando Magic are a quality team which will be looking to get back on the right track tonight when they face the Houston Rockets. I can pretty much guarantee victory on this one. It's academic

Boston Celtics, Memphis Grizzlies - (Boston -13) - Originally went with the Orlando Magic and Houston rockets total under 194.5 but thats a bad bet. This game looks much more solid.. Boston just plays great defense and shuts their teams out at home. Prediction: Memphis will get blown out by 30 + points

Detroit is hot and time to ride them until they lose. While I"m from Toronto, this is no spot to be a Homer. If Bosh steps up and his aggressive going to the basket this could be close.

Sac/Cle under 193 - Cleveland is back to focusing on D, and this number is a bit high considering that. Sac is agreeable to low-scoring games when confronted by teams who prefer that style.

Milwaukee -1.5 - mil has a bad record but I think they are a decent team and should be a bigger home fave than this near-pick 'em number against washington. what's so great about wash that they merit being almost even up on the road here? mo williams had tendinitis 2 games ago, so maybe this line is low because of news regarding that, but i'll still take mil at this line even if he is out.

Raptors +4: Raps back home from a grueling 7-game road trip out West. Pistons' 10-game win streak cause for Toronto being a juicy 4-pt. home dog, and this represents a bit of a lookahead spot for Detroit, what with their rematch with the Celtics looming tomorrow night.

Hornets/Warriors OVER 209: Relatively modest total for a Warriors game. First meeting this season between these two teams, and although New Orleans' numbers would suggest otherwise (96 PPG, 92 PA), Chris Paul's the ideal PG to play at GS's pace, and I think the Hornets will be inclined to play Nellie ball.

Loyola MD -5 over Fairfield:

Loyola 2-0 ATS at home: Loyola coming off 2 difficult road games now facing conference opponent at home. Last home conference game Loyola took care of Manhattan by 23. Should cover the 5 against a weaker opponent.


UC Irvine +6 over CS Fullerton:

UC Irvine 3-1 ATS on road: CS Fullerton 0-2 as favorite ATS. should be a close game I am grabbing the points with the Anteaters

NOK/GSW under 209 - Should not be an out of control up and down game, and with the Hornets playing great D and the Warriors capable of showing flashes of solid D this should stay under the number.

Sac/Clev under 193 - Sac missing probably their 3 best offensive players, and Clev finally defending like last year with the return of Varejao, this should stay under the number.

Detroit Pistons/Toronto Raptors -- Over 1861/2 -- With the hot team coming off a short rest they should go over the century mark easy and the Raptors have reached this mark in their last two games.

I like the Pistons because they are the superior team and the game is on ESPN(lol what can I say I like to watch games I'm riding)- My only worries are they may be looking ahead to the Celtics rematch

I like Boston because of their 27 wins, 20 have been by 10 points or more so covering 13 I am betting won't be an issue. My only worry is Rondo's lingering injury

Admittably Detroit has cruised the past month or so, crushing most teams with ease. However, i think this number is a bit inflated. Detroit will play in Boston Tomorrow, possibly saving up something for that game and Toronto is a solid and deep team. Toronto will likely be hard team to beat at home for rest of the season and i like them here to stop Detroits win streak. Also taking over as the number is quite low and should sail past the number if Toronto competes in this one.

Denver Nuggets -6 I got sucked into betting the moneyline as part of a parlay that was winning on the Timberwolves against Clippers the other night and it looked like a win for me but the Timberwolves got blown out in the 4th quarter by 40-10.Wolves starters are bad enough where they just have one legitimate starter but their bench is worse.

Boston Celtics -13 They just look so good and being home after their western road trip is good medicine for them to put a show on for the crowd and their bettors.They look like the Patriots of the NBA.

The wizards are coming off a loss at home to the pistons, and they will be looking to get back on track tonight when they travel to play the bucks. Milwaukee just had a good win in miami and I don't see them repeating that performance. The bucks have the 2nd worst FG% against in the league giving up 47% a clip, and I look for the wiz to capitalize of that and get this road win.

The spurs are great at home, and they need to bounce back after that loss at Denver. I don't normally play teams traveling the following day after a game, but the spurs here are an exception. Plus the knicks just flat out suck. Ill lay the big points here and take a chance on SA.
