If he had handled this completely differently, like a thoughtful, mature, humble ADULT, Cavs fans would be disappointed but not nearly as angry. He needed to do it much differently, and say much different things than he did.

Instead, he manipulated countless people, acted like he is God's gift to athletics, and worst of all, suggested and created an hour-long live-TV special about HIMSELF, to bestow his gracious decision upon the world. Give me a break!!!! How narcissistic can one person be?!?!?! He will see that this was a terrible move -- everyone is rooting against him now.

I agree. I always knew that about him...problem is the whole world knows now. He couldn't have really handled his "decision" any worse.

The Miami Heat should change its nickname.

It should be the Miami Hated.
LeBron James announced Thursday night that he, too, now will play for the Hated - joining holdover Dwyane Wade and fellow newcomer Chris Bosh in the fold - as Miami framed a knockout free-agent campaign.
It's quite a coup pulled off by Miami President Pat Riley, who must realize how despised this arrangement will make his team. But it's what he sought from the beginning of his recruiting efforts. And it's not as though Riley isn't familiar with the territory.
He certainly has known his share of venom during a spectacular career as an NBA coach and, finally, as a front-office magician, but Riley loves this stuff. Always has.
He embraced having his guys being a constant target when he led the so-called Showtime champion Los Angeles Lakers from his place on the bench, and now he has constructed a different version of the act in Miami from his upstairs office overlooking Biscayne Bay.
It's another perfect stage for the glamour set.
Glowtown, anyone?
"I'm taking my talents to South Beach," was James' phrasing in announcement of his choice during an ESPN special presentation.
So ended an extended period of speculation about whether James, who is from Akron, Ohio, would ditch his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers after seven years for brighter lights and better opportunity for a championship.
He did, which, of course, is his right.
James has spent the whole of his spectacular professional career with the Cavs to this point, and saw little promise for a title there.
But the methodology of James taking his leave was more than a bit unseemly, and absolutely will contribute to how the Hated will be received everywhere it goes on the road.
It won't be just because Miami immediately becomes the favorite (not merely one of the favorites) to win the NBA crown next season and for several seasons to come, but also, and maybe mostly, because of the orchestration of the entire episode.
Wade and Bosh had a little fun with it by posing for a photograph recently and saving an open spot in it for James, but James himself went all diva on the process. During the ESPN telecast - "The Decision" was its label - James revealed that he didn't finalize his thoughts on the matter until Thursday morning, had just informed Miami of his choice and said every other suitor would be finding out as he made his announcement.
Classy, very classy.
That ought to make the other teams that courted him - the Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets and Los Angeles Clippers - feel all warm and fuzzy.
The trio of James, Bosh and Wade were the first, fourth and fifth selections in the 2003 NBA Draft, respectively, and have lived up to those accompanying expectations and now will form as imposing a trio of still-young players as the NBA perhaps ever has seen. The three reportedly have agreed to accept less than maximum money in their new contracts.
"I can't say it was always in my plans, because I never thought it was possible," James said.
Riley and the Miami number-crunchers who deal with salary-cap issues made it work. What kind of complementary personnel Riley is able to add to his stable of superstars remains to be seen, but the Hated will be a circus show every night it plays.
It might not be unlike when Michael Jordan was holding court with what turned out to be a six-time champion Bulls team when opposing fans routinely hoped for Jordan to be other-worldly ... and for Chicago to lose.
But there also likely will be a New York Yankees-like tint to Miami's efforts despite the salary-cap constraints, because there will be a reaction from detractors - and they will be a pick-an-NBA-city legion - that it's a store-bought team.
So be it.
Riley will revel in the animosity and awe, and he'll make sure Wade, Bosh and James do, too. It'll be a grand spectacle, and AmericanAirlines Arena will become the league's see-and-be-seen venue.
But it is the Miami Heat no more.
It is the Miami Hated.
