When you look back on this series Lakers had plenty of heroes in the different wins they had. Fischer in the 4th qtr of game 3 and Ron Artest tonight and to a lesser amount in game 6. I don't think there is anyway the Lakers win this thing without Artest and Gasol. Artest kept them in it in the first half when Boston could have buried them. He really kept Pierce from allowing Celtics to separate bigtime. He hit big shots. He played with energy when Kobe looked gassed most of 2nd half. For all the trouble he has had he played under control when the Lakers needed it most. You knew Kobe would get the MVP. But in the end they could not have won without Artest.

LOVE THIS THREAD TITLE. Kobe won it on reputation. Gasol was the true MVP.

Let me simplify it for everyone involved. If you ask Phil Jackson who the most valuable player for his team was, I guarantee he answers Gasol, which is why Gasol got more minutes than Kobe in almost every game. Gasol was the MVP, but Kobe has the reputation so there is nothing we can do about it.

Gasol averaged 42 minutes per game, Kobe 41. Pretty even there.

I have to admit I exaggerated a little in my posts, a few too many beers last night, and I DESPISE Kobe Bryant.

I do believe Gasol was the MVP, but you guys are all right in your assessment of Kobe. He is the best player on the planet and most likely deserved it if you look at the entire series. Really I was focusing on Game 7 alone as it was the deciding game.

Kobe is not a choker, but whatever you want to call it, his performance last night was terrible. Yes he played good defense and rebounded well, which is key. But his terrible offense was more detrimental than his solid defense. Every poor offensive possession LA had involved Kobe hogging the ball and jacking up a bad shot. He took 24 shots, which is OK if you are getting good looks and missing. He was not getting good looks and he went 6-24, with 2 ASSISTS and 4 TURNOVERS. You are touching the ball on nearly every possession and you end with 24 shots, 25% shooting, and 2 assists? He is selfish and not even close to an MVP last night.

Meanwhile Gasol had 9 offensive rebounds, 18 total, 4 assists, 2 blocks, 40% shooting and 19 points.
