This is the last and decisive game 5 from the semifinals and winner will go to the finals to face Bamberg.
I have to say this call is very hard for me. I have bets on 3 of previous games between those teams(except game 1) and i won all of them. And i wouldnt bet on this game 5 if there were more games to bet today, unfortunately only 2 basket games today.
Before placing a bet on a German Basket you have to know, teams in Germany are average level in Europe. Every team can beat every team here, and can from also from every team. I would say Germany and France are same championships when comparing in that kind. While Spain is on opposite with 3 top teams there. However If we look on Playoffs in Germany you will hardly miss that top 4 teams from regular season ( from 8 participating in Playoffs) are out! Brose who are in Finals were 5th and other finalist will be either 6 or 7 from Regular season. While is France team 1 and 2 still fighting and maybe will play in the Final(i would say 85 % probability).
So back to the semifinal game 5 between Bremerhaven and Skyliners. How came to this game 5?
Bremerhaven and Skyliners finished regulars season with a 21-13 record. However Bremerhavens homerecord was 11-6 while Skyliners had 13-4 record. Let say Skyliners are more home dominant team.
Bremerhaven had to play 5 games to beat their opponent Gottingen. In those seemed like there will be only homewins and Gottingen who were placed better and counted as hidden top favorite and who had very good Europe campaign had to win series with the home advantage they had. Unfortunately they lost game 5 on homeground very stupid as they had a 10 pts advantage in the final 2-3 mins to lose it by 1 pt with a buzzer beater. They had controlled the game till this finals seconds. So Bremerhaven showed moral and good coaching side.
Skyliners beat ALBA in quarterfinals with very strong perfromance. Almost nobody expected that especially as ALBA were playing good in Germany and they almost every year in last 10 years played in Finals or won the cup.
Situation in semifinals so far: Bremerhaven had home advantage and won game 1, i couldnt personaly watch. In game 2 Skyliners(home team) dominated but game was equal and they won by 1 point with 84 -83. In game 3 Skyliners showed superiority and won by 26 points on Bremerhaven court with very impressive play. Seems like Bremerhaven were not prepared to lose the game, and didnt expected that kind of performance from SKyliners, who lead whole game. SKyliners had home advantage and people though they will finish series, unfortunately they didnt. Skyliners were in same situation like Bremerhaven in previous game. Bremerhaven hit just before HT while having a 10-0 run and took the lead. They defend it in 2 HT, Skyliners tried a comeback and were very close in this game however in final seconds they lack of strategy to win it so they lost by 7 pts.
So my points about this game once again are:
1. In Germany every team can beat every team - so taking away win isnt something bad. Contra : However more games end with a home team winner.
2. Skyliners beat ALBA with strong performance . Contra : Bremerhaven beat Gottingen who were also top 3 team.
3. Skyliners showed some kind of more stable performance in previous 4 games. They beat Bremerhaven after taking lead in game 3 and didnt allow a comeback. While in game 4 Skyliners were 12 pts down and came back and had a chance to tie the game. Contra : Bremerhaven showed same in Quarterfinals : were down by 10 and won a game in last 2 mins.
4. Bremerhaven are weaker hometeam, allowed more loses then other top teams. Contra Skyliners are weaker away team then Bremerhaven.
5. And maybe most important : Skyliners lost game 4 with poor shooting percentage and Bremerhaven hit good percentage. Skyliners had 16 %! shooting from mid range and 20 % shooting from 3pter. They were bad tactical in important moments especially in last mins of 1 HT. Bremerhaven hit 50 %! from 3pter with 10/20 that i doubt they can repeat once again today, and they had good 50% shooting from 2pts. While in game 3 Bremerhaven had 25 % from 3pts as 5/20 shooting. So in game 4 Skyliners didnt defend well and thats how Bremerhaven took the lead in this game. If Skyliners didnt broke in this game and allow that shooting they will win the game. I actually believe they though they had Bremerhaven till that point and thats how they lost that game. Now its 5th game and Skyliners play away so i doubt they will be so unfocused in long periods. I think they will wait and hit. Contra Based on home support Bremerhaven can start well and hit good shooting.
So handycap in this game is 3,5 pts and i believe its not a good idea to take it. So for me either away win @2.4 or skip. You can decide, as i wrote there are a lot pro and contras for this game.
