The game 2 factor in NBA and NHL
For so many years i have personally followed this strategy when betting on NBA and NHL. Teams winning the 2nd game have such high % of winning the series that i take that into account for the remainder of the series.

This season in the NBA playoffs every game 2 winner won the series except the Hawks and they will tomorrow.

Spurs/Cavs/Lakers/Suns/Jazz/Magic/Boston and Hawks tomorrow will make it 8-0. The Jazz /Spurs and Suns even lost the first game and still won the series.

Although it isnt guaranteed obviously you should factor this into your series bets. I can go back many years but here is a sample in the NBA of how teams who won game 2 ended up doing series wise.

    2009 - 9-6
    2008 - 13-2
    2007 - 10-5
    2006 - 10-5
    2005 - 10-5
    2004 - 11-4
    2003 - 11-4

So that is 74-31 for a winning % of 70.

This for me is good info because the 2nd game is obviously the most important game in the series cause its 2-0 or 1-1 and the series can change.

    In the NHL

    2003- 12-3
    2004- 12-3
2005- no season due to lockout
    2006- 12-3
    2007- 8-7
    2008- 14-1
    2009- 11-4

    Total of 69-21 for a % of 76.67

Combined that is 143-52 for a 73.33% winning rate.

Now this info can be used whatever way you feel but i use it to evaluate how to bet the remainder of the series after game 2 and look at a possible series bet with value.

Celtics just stole home court. Can they win this series?? I have no idea, but the Cavs are beatable, as we just saw today.

Let's see what happens this round. Round 1 was 8-0 so I expect game 2 winners to even out a little.

The team with homecourt advantage probably wins 70% of the time also. The team with home court always hosts game 2 so it makes sense.

Cavs most likely will be "out of the pattern" and will win this series.

LB can we work backwards from this and say that if we expect a team to win a series that we should take them game 2?

Just as an example say someone thought that San Antonio or LA would win the series, wouldn't we want to bet them to win game 2? Obviously the chalk on some of these games will be ridiculous, but just wondering if you use the "rule" in reverse order?

                                NBA- this round

Lakers won game 2- if they lose game 3 and you have deep pockets take them at series price
Suns won game 2- pray they lsoe game 3 and you could get good price- 275 right now
Celtics won game 2- cavs are -224 and boston is +200- decide now or after tonight but if cavs win that price will skyrocket up
Magic win game 2- no point here

3 of those 4 are imo good to go with boston still up in the air

                                NHL

Habs won game 2- habs +305- pens -350- take habs and then hedge with pens ml??
                                Bruins won game 2- done
Blackhawks won game 2- canucks +221 and hawks -248 up to you
                                Sharks won game 2-done

should go 3-1 maybe 4-0 in nhl and at least 2-0

                                  good info lb

hopefully the nucks win tonight so I can take the blackhawks series. Hawks Bruins look like the only legit contenders right. I said SJ before the playoffs but I'm not buying them. They're going to lose game 5 and probably win game 6.
