i'd say more people just hate them because they have been so successful

Looking forward to watching some of this series even though there is no chance in hell the lakers don't win, probably a 5 game series.

its easy to dislike kobe. he came into the league w/that smug arrogant look on his face and never got rid of it. his off the court facial expressions, attitude, overall persona, is just extremely easy to DISLIKE, which is why so many people dislike him. it's very simple

Patty made a great point, Kobe is slighty down and not just going to take over a game night in and night out in playoffs like he use to

The energy will not be there.

NBA is a young mans game

I just remember at the predraft a few years ago, a reporter asked Durant, why Portland should take him #1?

and this is what he said:" I think I have a winning mentality. Even though I’m young, I can bring leadership to an organization. I’m just cold-blooded. I really don’t care. Whoever’s in front of me, I’m going to do my best to destroy them. Younger people might back down sometimes, but I think I’m a tough player and I don’t back down from anything—I accept challenges. I know it’s going to be hard, but everything you have to face is hard. I’ll be young, and I’m sure people will write me off and say I’m too small or not ready, but I’ve been going through that my whole life."

This statement really opened my eyes and I thought this kid might have a chance to be something special.

wow all these nubies saying Durant is better than Kobe after Durant had 1 great season and it wasn't even that much better than Kobe's injury riddled season and one of the worst of his career even though he averaged 27 5 and 5 and hit double the amount of buzzer beaters as durant has hit in his whole career. Durant doesn't even play defense, honestly 85 percent of the people on this forum probably don't even watch/play ball and just look at stats. Defense is more important than offense, you can never be classified in the elite 3-4 players in the league if your just a decent defender, which is why Mello has never been in the discussion with Kobe Lebron Wade.

Mello and Durant are pure scorers, they'll no where near the skill level of Bryant, Wade, Lebron. These three are on another plateau and anyone that disagrees doesn't really know anything about basketball. I love it when these nubies see one fantastic season from a player and start calling him a top 3 player.

Durant is not even a playmaker yet at this point in his career, he will be, and is one of the best talents for sure we have seen in this league in a long time, but he's simply a scorer right now. He averages like 2-3 assists per game, how are you going to have the ball in your hands for that long and only average 3 assists per game? That's terrible. Until Durant can make plays for others, and average 30 8 and 5/6 in a season, and also learn to play defense, then you can start putting him in the top 3-4 discussion.

We are comparing a younger player to a veteran, but lets not forget that while everyone talks about assists and buzzer beaters from Kobe....they are leaving out the fact that Durant led Kobe in every aspect of the game this year besides assists, yes kobe averaged 2 more per game than Durant. But check FG%, 3PT%, FT%, REB per game offensive and defensive and blocks...Durant beat him in every category. Also Kobe's D is lacking of late and I'm sure we can say he's known for great defense in the past, but to say he's far surperior now, isn't true.
The thunder have shown they can play with anyone and haven't had any problem's with injuries all year and lets face it, the Lakers are banged up and showing it.
