    Spurs under 198 1/2
Rockets at Spurs UNDER 198 1/2

I just love this under and I dont see how they came up with such a big total. Here we have two pretty good defensive teams and two teams who like to play a slow tempo type game. Neither of these two offenses will force the action much. Expect a lot of half court play and limited shots in this game.

The Spurs have been playing great defense of late. In its last five games, they have held Oklahoma City to 96, The Lakers to 93, Cleveland to 97, the Celtics to 73, and New Jersey to 90. So during that stretch they have played 4 playoff teams and 3 of the best teams in the NBA and held these 5 to an average of less than 90 points.

The Spurs have also not been scoring much. During the same 5 game stretch they have scored 99,92,102,94, and 84 points. That comes out to an average of 94 points per game.

The Rockets seem to be the type of team that will play to their opponent. When the Rockets play a fast paced up and down team, they will go with that and it turns into a high scoring game. When they play a slow tempo team like the Spurs they will go with that as well and get into a low scoring game.

The Rockets seem to always let their opponent dictate the tempo of the game. In the last 7 games, the Rockets have alternated between their style. First they held Memphis to 94 points. This is a Grizzlies team that pretty much always puts up 105+. Then the Rockets played a 181 point total with the Celtics. They also had a 186 point game with the Bulls, 192 with the Clippers and 192 with the Wizards.

In between those games were high scoring games with the Knicks, Lakers, and Thunder. However, a 210 with the Lakers isnt that big of a total seeing as how the Lakers routinely play 225+ games.

I think with the Rockets playing at San Antonio tonight though we can expect a pretty low scoring game. The Rockets only real scoring threats are Aaron Brooks and Luis Scola and I think Tim Duncan will shut them down in the middle down low.

Even the Spurs traditional scoring threats are not what they used to be. Tim Duncan averages 18 points per game, Tony Parker 16.5 and Manu Ginobli 16. That is 3 pretty low scoring averages when you consider these guys are most of the Spurs scoring punch.

The Spurs are much less an offensive threat nowadays and much more a defensive threat. With the Spurs being at home, I think they will dictate the tempo as most teams do against the Rockets.

On the year the Spurs have average 100 points per game while giving up 97 while the Rockets have averaged and given up just over 100 PPG. With the playoffs coming I expect this Spurs defense to continue to clamp down on opponents as it has during the last 5 games.

This will be a low scoring game from start to finish and I fully think this under will be safe and secure by halftime as I expect something like a 42-40 halftime score.
