Never Bet on a Road Fav after They've Won as a SU Road Dog
This bromide was mentioned in one of the Wash/Den theads from yesterday.

Never Bet on a Road Fav after They've Won as a SU Road Dog.

For the past 15 years this has gone:

    234-209-11 (52.82%) +3.94U

If you add B2B games to the equation you get:

    74-67-3 (52.48%) +.34U

Versus the spread it had 8 winning years and 7 losing years.

So, essentially statistically insignificant. Would this be because of excellent linemakers, or just that it doesn't really matter? It seems to me that a large percentage of these winning "trends" are going to be picked up on by the pros (as in the linemakers, not the gamblers.)

On a side note, TGoat, let's keep the vocabulary to a level to where, say, anybody within two positive standard deviations of the IQ mean can comprehend. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I can't ever remember needing a dictionary to cruise the forums before. Bromide...

I think that's his point exactly. Winning SU as a road dog has essentially no effect on your ability to cover as a road favorite the next game.

yes i believe the title of the post is the bromide itself, not a command from tgoat.

but i still don't know what a bromide is, just using context clues here.

In other words TGoat is explaining that the lack of Statistical significance makes the statement....

Never Bet on a Road Fav after They've Won as a SU Road Dog.

                        A gamblers fallacy.
