There's two types of lines.
1) The first type is one that accurately represents one team's advantage over the other, and is developed using stats.
2) The second type is one that starts out as the first type, then gets adjusted by the books to match up with their expectation of public opinion such that the betting will be balanced.
"Trap" lines don't exist. Sometimes the dog will blow out the fave by 25+ pts, but that's just the game...

suicidekings i remember we talked about it - but two types only? i think a line can start out as public perception too.
also a line can be off and they realize it later maybe - thats just a guess

The books want the action to be balanced above all else, but that means finding a balance between a fair line and public opinion (both square and sharp money, with both medium and large bankrolls on both sides). If it starts out swung to far away from where a fair line should be, the smart money take advantage of it. The books would be forced to adjust the line closer to a fair line but they would have the additional liability of money that's already been placed on the inflated line.
Their best case scenario is a line that sits in the middle so that the different betting groups are split amongst themselves as to which side is the right side.

Back to the original question:
I would lean to MEM -1, but take it easy tomorrow. Even the most professional of players takes the ASB off and it's hard to tell who's going to show up.

First time Suns are playing post Amare trade talk. This will have an impact on team morale. I would fade them.

I love Memphis here. The sucked their last few games, and those are the teams that have the best chance of using the All-Star Break to good advantage. Memphis has also covered at home against every fast-paced team they've played there: Indiana, Denver, GS, Minnesota, and Phoenix--all by at least 4.5.
