So far it looks like this will be a bad year to back the Lakers.

After winning a Championship, they are not as hungry. Boston after not repeating last year have that hunger to take their championship back. Combined that they are stacked, helps them cover. (also Magic)

Everyone is out to beat the champs. To the crappiest teams in the NBA, they will give it their all to out the Champs.

Being Champs only inflates the lines extremely, thus making it hard to cover. Combined with a weak bench, teams who are blown out can get back into the game and at least cover the big spreads if they have a better bench.

When Gasol returns, will definitely help the bench and then will they have a greater chance to cover the big spreads. Odom coming off the bench?

Whats going on with Ron Artest? He doesn't look hungry to me. I wish they would have stuck with Ariza. Trevor brought an energy off the bench that excited his teammates and lifted the bench to play harder. This Artest guy makes me fall asleep. His shooting, especially 3's are off. However, the Lakers are just more interested in him defending the opposing teams best defender. Think his talent has peaked, but Ariza is still growing.

Until Gasol returns, I'm definitely not backing the Lakers to cover big spreads against anybody.

    teams i like so far:
Magic-Stacked with talent from starting line-up to bench. Very Hungry and healthy.

    Celtics-Stacked also. Very Hungry

Heat-D Wade playing like a monster as usual, but especially since it's his contract year. Going to see $$$$$ so lots of reasons for him to play his ass off. With his teammates having that playoff experience last year has helped them with confidence of finishing games.

Thunder-Filled with young talents that will surprise a lot of teams. Durant just needs to be more consistent with his shooting. Is reminding me of a Jamal Crawford when he was w/ the knicks....can either win you a game, or lose it.
