The NBA is set up. Earlier in the season they played the Nuggets after Melo and Smith got suspended. before Iverson....and they got down by like 30 in the first half.

The Wiz are shaving points. If Gilbert is hitting game winners and not watching the ball go in, there is no way that they would lose games like this. It is obvious.

i've always had this feeling that the big salaries, gambling, fixing of games was all tied together somehow

many times when a game has long since been decided but its right around the spread or total and theyre calling all kinds of timeouts and having conversations i've wondered if theyre just discussing which side of the point spread the game is "supposed to " end up on

you guys are idiots. pros make millions of dollars. why risk it shaving points?

if you want to see point shaving you may want to take a look at college bball, where the players are poor and impressionable.

That is very true pro players in this day in age won't risk shaving points for a few extra bucks. These guys make WAY to much money to do that if you are going to accuse anyone of it accuse college b-ballers. If you want to say that a pro is doing it then at least blame a league minimum player or something, but they want more playing time and to play good for big bucks so either way it is a very outrageous statement.

There's no point-shaving in the NBA, which is not to say that the players/coaches aren't aware of and/or influenced by the spread.

The only way the spreads usually influence a game is it is a great tool for a coach and player to use as motivation. They are often aware of spreads and teams love to help their fans cover spreads. You don't think Urban Meyer went into the locker room before the game and said guys we have had a hell of a season we have only lost one game and the united states doesn't think we belong here. We are 13 point underdogs they give us no respect lets make them respect us and show them who the 13 point dog should be. That is how spreads help or hurt pro and college clubs no team plays to lose the spread they all play to beat it.

That's exactly how I feel. People don't seem to realize that point shaving involves the over/under as well as the point spread (it's not just shaving put ADDING points by playing extra frantic and a little less defense). I have major theories as to how at all works but why put pearls before swine? Anyone can PM me if they want my theory.

Pros make millions, why risk it???? If you think that the money they make influences there decision making skill, try again. Think of all the well paid athletes getting arrested for drug charges, fighting, beating women and other brilliant crimes that they commit. Most of them have grown up as idiots and still are. I wouldnt be shocked to hear that an athlete just signed a 10 million dollar contract then later that night got caught robbing a gas station. Money does not buy them a brain or class!

It's all tied together. The NBA is a business. Don't you think the guys in vegas got together with the NBA owners and AT LEAST TRIED TO get them to fix games a long time ago? If you can except that this could go up to ownership level, then you can open up your mind to the possibilities. If the owners are decreeing this (in the name of profit, naturally), then they would hire a commissioner who they were sure would look the other way and it goes right down the line from there... Even Mark Cuban has said publicly that he thinks that some NBA games are fixed and you know that he's just dropping a hint, he would never say that unless he KNEW IT was true, it's bad for business to say such things.

You know what, I'm not even gonna post my theory here as to what I think is going on because I know I'd be ostracized from this board, no one wants to hear it for some reason.
