Basketball Parlay of the Day - Friday, 3/23/07
SBR will give the winner of the March Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest a sparkling new 19-inch LCD DVI Monitor! For those of you unfamiliar with the contest, here are the rules:

Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok. You have until five minutes before tip time of your first game to post the selections. Also note that all plays will now be graded against a uniform line! I will post the lines from Pinnacle at approximately 11 AM ET each day. Those of you wishing to make selections before then may do so without posting your lines, and they will be graded against my posted lines.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will keep two sets of standings: the Official Standings will be based on parlay units won/lost, and the secondary standings will be on a game-by-game basis ranked by winning percentage.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

The player with the most units won after the games of March 31 will win the winner-take-all grand prize. Note that you must play at least 15 days (30 plays) during the month to qualify for the prize! In case of a tie in units, the tiebreaker will be the better winning percentage. If still tied, the contest will be extended with the tied players making one parlay selection per day at the start of April until the tie is broken. NO PASSES will be allowed during this extension period, and any of the tied players doing so will be eliminated regardless of the other player(s) results for that day.

    Good Luck to All!

    Fine Print:

1 entry per household and IP address.

Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits

    Tie breakers:
Will be decided by win % of individual parlay legs. 2nd tiebreaker is based on additional daily parlays until one person breaks tie.

15 parlays must be made in the month.

All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.

SBR will pick a DVI LCD monitor that is features on this page when winner is decided.

USC +8.5? USC will score all night long with UNC as this goes down to the wire. Just way too may points given for this one as I am still in the shrinking group that believes UNC is overrated and they are facing one of the most dangerous squads in the tourney. USC will not be relying on one shooter (more like 5) causing them (him) to fade in the closing minutes.

Butler +10.5? I was blown away by Florida's resiliency down the stretch Sunday against Purdue making me initially lay off here but I can't resist one of the best defensive teams in the country +10.5. Butler will give up next to nothing in transition which is one ingredient Purdue used to stay with the Gators. Butler will slow this thing down to a crawl and either cash in on their backdoor cuts or the open 3 with 5 seconds like on the clock. If they don't hit their normal % from beyond the arc then this play is in trouble but Graves & company are over their shooting slump. The biggest mismatch is size up and down the rosters so Butler will need to find a way to get rebounds. Let's also not forget Butler is 5-0 SU against power conferences (N. Dame, Indiana, Purdue, Tennessee, Maryland).

            MIA -2.5
Dr. Strangeline strikes again. Indy is in freefall, Miami is fully focused on their playoff position. Indy may play them close for a half, but as soon as the chips are down Miami will expose their soft underbelly.

            DET +6
This should be a gritty battle with Pistons fully motivated after losing at home to Spurs. Spurs are going through a sloppy spell, fat and happy after a 13 game win streak. So how does a home team cover 6 pts when the game goes down to the wire?

Vanderbilt/Georgetown Under 132.5: The Hoyas have held five of their last six opponents under 60 points, and they are allowing just 56.8 points per game on a miniscule 38.2 percent shooting for the entire season. Georgetown is coming off of a typical 62-55 victory over Boston College in which they held the Eagles to just 21 field goals in 55 attempts. Now Vanderbilt scored 77 and 78 in the first two tournament games respectively thanks to some deadly three-point shooting, but we do not feel that the Commodores will be able to approach those figures vs. this stingy Hoya defense. Finally the Under is now a fantastic 28-10 in the last 38 Georgetown tournament games of any kind, and we look for that trend to continue in this contest.

Los Angeles Lakers +2.5: All the hype surrounding this contest will be regarding Kobe trying to top 50 points for the fourth straight time. However, keep in mind that he has been blowing up ever since Lamar Odom and Luke Walton returned to the lineup, and having all of their pieces in tact makes the Lakers a dangerous team right now. They should be primed for this double-revenge spot, as the Lake Show is 0-2 straight up vs. the Hornets this season. New Orleans is coming off of a 114-103 victory at Memphis, but that may work against them here, considering that they are just 22-43 against the spread when coming off of a double-digit straight up victory. The bottom line here is that the Hornets lack the firepower to match Kobe & Co. right now, so we will gladly back the Lakers as an underdog in this spot.

                Wizards +5.5, Oregon -3

Arenas loves going against his old team, plus the Wiz have play quite a few close games lately.

The Pac 10 is a good conference. 3 teams are left from that conference. Ducks should win this one big.

                    Florida -10
I would definitely love to see the Bulldogs give them a good game tonight and they very well might. However, Butler's lack of size will really hurt them IMO tonight... I see Florida winning this game by about 15... I would really love to see Butler pull of the miraculous upset and will be rooting hard against this side...

                    USC +8.5
I really need UNC to pound the Trojans in this one tonight in the ATS pool that I am in... However, I can definitely see USC winning this one outright tonight... We'll see how effective Reyshawn Terry is if he plays tonight... I think once he gets out there and into the heat of the battle he will produce... USC keeps this one within the line tonight and very possibly wins outright!

North Carolina -8.5: USC played a great game against texas, but i think they let down here against a much better team.

Georgetown -8: I'm still not too impressed with vanderbilts wins this tourney or year, they should get blown out.

                        LAC+2
Hell yeah Boyyyyy! LAC on fire & smokin people on the rd, now @Hm getting a couple, they will want to keep their momentum going. LAC 4-1 SU & ATS @Hm vs UTAH last 3 seasons. UTAH struggling on the rd right now...lost last 4 SU & ATS.

                        USC+8.5
Just a "solid" playing team playing with a considerable amount of points. Should be able to keep this one real close......hopefully!

Utah -2 - Letdown spot for LAC. Utah is rested and hungry for a road win, and should be able to pull it out.

Oregon -3 - Oregon is similar to UNLV, but better, and more cohesive at this point. They aren't the inexperienced head-case team they have been the past few years. They should roll here.

NO/OKC -2.5 Lakers are 1-8-1 in their last 10. Getting too much credit here on their back to back even with Kobe playing lights out.

Utah -2.5 Third game of four in five. Cassell's hurting, Tim thomas is hurting and might not play. Look for a lax performance from LA as this is the first home game after a long road trip. Jazz pull it out.
