Basketball Parlay of the Day - Sunday, 3/19/07
SBR will give the winner of the March Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest a sparkling new 19-inch LCD DVI Monitor! For those of you unfamiliar with the contest, here are the rules:

Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok. You have until five minutes before tip time of your first game to post the selections. Also note that all plays will now be graded against a uniform line! I will post the lines from Pinnacle at approximately 11 AM ET each day. Those of you wishing to make selections before then may do so without posting your lines, and they will be graded against my posted lines.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will keep two sets of standings: the Official Standings will be based on parlay units won/lost, and the secondary standings will be on a game-by-game basis ranked by winning percentage.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

The player with the most units won after the games of March 31 will win the winner-take-all grand prize. Note that you must play at least 15 days (30 plays) during the month to qualify for the prize! In case of a tie in units, the tiebreaker will be the better winning percentage. If still tied, the contest will be extended with the tied players making one parlay selection per day at the start of April until the tie is broken. NO PASSES will be allowed during this extension period, and any of the tied players doing so will be eliminated regardless of the other player(s) results for that day.

    Good Luck to All!

    Fine Print:

1 entry per household and IP address.

Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits

    Tie breakers:
Will be decided by win % of individual parlay legs. 2nd tiebreaker is based on additional daily parlays until one person breaks tie.

15 parlays must be made in the month.

All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.

SBR will pick a DVI LCD monitor that is features on this page when winner is decided.

AT LAST, I hit one of these damn things, so I won't go 0 for the month. Great God Almighty!

Hats off to STUMP and his 18-5-1 game-by-game record so far.

TX -2.5 and the under of 146.5 (or whatever)

I don't feel the need to discuss this game as I started my own thread on it. Zone D=Under, too much talent (hopefully won't be killed by Barnes) Texas to cover.

        Kentucky +8, Portland -4

Kentucky can play well against good teams and down to the level of bad teams. A good tournament team none the less.

Seattle lost a heart breaker last night. Portland should be able to keep the misery of a bad season going for the Sonics.

            Memphis -5.5

Nick Fazekas is a quality big man, but Memphis has more than enough big guys to throw at him. With guys like Robert Dozier and Joey Dorsey patrolling the paint Fazekas could be in for a long day. Memphis's overall athleticism is just too much Nevada today.

            Texas -2

Texas had a little fear put into them Friday when New Mexico St hung around longer than the Longhorns expected. Today, Texas comes out with a fire lit under their rears and puts it to USC.

Nevada +5.5 A team that has exactly one W all season against the RPI top 50 should not be laying points to Nevada. My prediction is Calipari's "We're 31-3 so our FT % doesn't matter" speech won't go over very well after they are knocked out of the tourney because of it.

              S. Illinois -1.5 This looked a lot better at +1/PK but I'll list it here anyway. These two clubs did meet back in November in a close one which concerns me a bit but when you bet on S. Illinois you know they are going to bring that D for 40 minutes. If you bet Virginia Tech you can't possibly have any idea as to what team will show up. S. Illinois will finish what Illinois set out to do but choked on Friday.

UNLV/Wisconsin Under 124.5: The Rebels are known for their offense, and deservedly so, but do not overlook the UNLV defense either. That unit has limited opposing teams to just 42.7 percent shooting on the year, and it has been at its best vs. non-conference opponents. In fact, the Under is now 8-0-1 in the last nine Rebel contests outside of the Mountain West! Wisconsin is allowing a miniscule 57.4 points per game on just 40.8 percent shooting, and the Under is 10-6 with an average combined score of 121.7 points when the Badgers are away from home. We expect the defensive intensity to be at a high level for both teams with so much at stake here, and we would not be shocked if these clubs struggle to break 120 points combined in this spot.

Winthrop/Oregon Under 138: Winthrop has now won 19 consecutive games, thanks to a defense that is surrendering just 62.9 points per game on 41.3 percent shooting for the year. The Eagles also quieted many of their skeptics by stepping up in class and limiting what had been a hot-shooting Notre Dame team to 64 points on Friday. Oregon played sloppily while escaping with a 58-56 triumph over Miami Ohio in the first round; but surprisingly that marked the fourth time in the last five games that the Duck defense has allowed less than 60 points. In fact the Under is now 9-7 in all Oregon games away from home for the season. Perhaps most importantly, both teams have played excellent defense down the stretch, with Winthrop allowing 63.2 points per game in the last five games and Oregon surrendering a microscopic 55.0 points over that same span. We so no reason why today should be any different, so look for a safe Under here.

Well, I might have had a chance if not for the total sham that was the Michigan State game.

                  Nevada +5.5 and Under 144.5
I think Memphis is full of holes. They have next to no tournament experience, a highly questionable in-game coach, are a good but not great defensive team, and haven't beaten a team as good as Nevada (They haven't defeated a ranked team all year, and their third best win is against Austin Peay). In fact, the three best teams they have played all beat them with relative ease.
You can be certain that Fox will slow this game down. If Nevada doesn't turn the ball over more than 10-12 times, they will win outright. I think they have the ballhandlers to deal with the Memphis pressure, and I'm not sure Memphis will have any success in the half court offense. This is a game that I don't think Memphis will ever lead by DDs, but even if they do, Memphis can't shoot FTs at all, so the backdoor potential is there.

                    Oregon -3
I truly believe Oregon will be pissed off about their effort or lack there of the other day against Miami... I look for Brooks to come out and ball from the beginning of this one... Winthrop spent a lot of energy the other day against Notre Dame and I think Oregon will get the best of them in this one!

                    Va Tech +1.5
The Salukis are very overrated IMO... If Va Tech plays how they did in the last 3 minutes of their games against Illinois the other day then they will win this one no sweat... Still running against the Salukis after how SHVTTY they played in the MVC Tournament... Was very unimpressed by their play and they are getting knocked out of the big tournament today by a solid Hokies club!

Dal/Det over 182 - After watching Detroit make mince meat of 5 Western Conference teams on the road, Dallas must be super-motivated to say the buck stops here. To beat the Pistons in Detroit, they're going to have to score some points, and they will today.

Oregon -3 - Absolutely no way are the Ducks going to allow Winthrop to stop them from getting to the sweet 16, it's it and that's that.

Va Tech/S Illinois under 119 - should be the standard extreme-D game from S Ill, and Va Tech will comply as they did last game against Illinois.

Portland -4 - Portland is decent, due for a win, and Seattle is on the road on the second of a back-to-back.

Fade Memphis, great athletes, but just an ok team giving 5.5 to a good TEAM.

CLIPPS been struggling on the rd & are headed into NJ for the 4th of a 6 gm rd trip, also 1-8 ATS as Rd Dog of 3.5-6 pts. NJ has been @Hm resting, & preparing vs traveling & not laying much considering all the above.

                            KANSAS-8.5
KENTUCKY had their hurah on Friday, won't have another big game here. I don't think KANSAS is going to mess around with these guys or take them lightly. See KANSAS coming out of the gate full throttle for a DD win.
