Basketball Parlay of the Day - Saturday, 3/17/07
SBR will give the winner of the March Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest a sparkling new 19-inch LCD DVI Monitor! For those of you unfamiliar with the contest, here are the rules:

Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok. You have until five minutes before tip time of your first game to post the selections. Also note that all plays will now be graded against a uniform line! I will post the lines from Pinnacle at approximately 11 AM ET each day. Those of you wishing to make selections before then may do so without posting your lines, and they will be graded against my posted lines.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will keep two sets of standings: the Official Standings will be based on parlay units won/lost, and the secondary standings will be on a game-by-game basis ranked by winning percentage.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

The player with the most units won after the games of March 31 will win the winner-take-all grand prize. Note that you must play at least 15 days (30 plays) during the month to qualify for the prize! In case of a tie in units, the tiebreaker will be the better winning percentage. If still tied, the contest will be extended with the tied players making one parlay selection per day at the start of April until the tie is broken. NO PASSES will be allowed during this extension period, and any of the tied players doing so will be eliminated regardless of the other player(s) results for that day.

    Good Luck to All!

    Fine Print:

1 entry per household and IP address.

Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits

    Tie breakers:
Will be decided by win % of individual parlay legs. 2nd tiebreaker is based on additional daily parlays until one person breaks tie.

15 parlays must be made in the month.

All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.

SBR will pick a DVI LCD monitor that is features on this page when winner is decided.

      Indiana +7?
      Michigan St +9.5/+10?

Here we go with the pathetic Big Ten again. I can't pass up all those points with two teams that play fine defense. You get a lot of advantages taking MSU (Coaching, defense, no guys with a face mask, best shooter). I think UCLA gets to Atlanta but will get into a slug fest with Indiana making it tough for the Bruins to cover the number.

Pitt -7 VCU has to be drained after their big upset on Thursday. This will be a letdown for them while Pitt will keep on marching.

Texas A&M -3 The Aggs are a very solid all around team with great defense, low turnovers and excellent shooting. Louisville will meet its match and more here.

          UCLA(-6.5)- Indiana sucks. Nuff said

Indiana/Atlanta Under 188.5- not alot of offense here. Everytime I bet indiana on the totals they go under so why not.

since there is nothing posted yet I went to pinny at 11:13 a.m. e.s.t. and got the info from there.

Mississippi State -8: Few teams in the country have done a better job of protecting their home court than the Bulldogs have this year. Mississippi State is now 14-3 straight up and 10-2 against the spread in this building, winning those contests by a whopping average of 15.4 points per game. Do not forget that they accomplished this despite playing in one of the better conference in the country in the SEC. Bradley was just 5-7 SU in true road games this season, where their scoring average of 68.2 points and shooting percentage of 44.1 percent were both significantly lower than their overall averages of 74.8 points and 46.5 percent. The Bulldogs are probably stronger than some of the lesser at-large teams that made it to the Big Dance, so look for them to drive that point home here with an emphatic victory.

Boston College +8: Yes, the Hoyas are 16-1 straight up in the last 17 games, and their suffocating defense is allowing just 56.8 points per game on the season. However, do not lose sight of the fact that the Big East is highly overrated this year, and we actually feel that Boston College represents a step up in class from the teams that Georgetown has been facing. The Eagles have been toughened by playing an ACC schedule, and it is not as if facing this Georgetown defense is anything new for them, as the Hoyas always had great defenses while Boston College was a member of the Big East. All things considered, all the talk about Georgetown going to the Final Four actually gives us some nice line value on BC here, and we look to take advantage of that fact.

                Xavier +7.5
The hype machine tells you this is a mismatch. The rosters tell you this is almost a tossup. Xavier has everything you look for in a dog, great 3-pt shooting, great FT shooting, good defense, and a good coach. Xavier is probably the most balanced #9 seed in the history of the tournament, and I don't even think they'll need the points here.

                Michigan State +9.5
Well, the Spartans have the much better coach, the much better defense, more experience, and are catching 9.5 points. Walton matches up very well with Lawson, who is the key for the UNC engine, and Neitzel will keep Sparty in the game.

PHX appears to be shorthanded and may wear down anyway; Nugs should be playing to win rather than outscore them. Just need one half-quarter with 16-20 points total and under it goes.

Pitt -7.0 I don't normally like this much chalk but I think VCU is outclassed here. VCU has not played a team of Pitt's caliber this year and I think their win over Duke was emotionally draining. Pitt coasted to a win and will be ready again. Look for Pitt to win this by double digits. Line appears to be skewed because of their win over Duke.

MSU +9.5 Michigan State is not getting any respect with this number. Should be closer to 5.5 or 6. Tom Izzo will keep his boys in this game.

                          Mich St +9.5, Denver +3

Mich St is due to play a good game for the first time in nearly a month, plus Roy Williams mind cannot be into blowing MSU out after his personal tragedy.

Phoenix know that they can get off the gas, they cannot catch the Mavs. Plus Denver loves to play well and up tempo when given the chance, who would not want to prove "it" against the Suns.

Sac/Orl under 202.5 - Sac is on their 4th game in 5 days, and they've been losing. Orlando will try to play their defense-oriented style of game, and Sac will probably comply, considering they are tired, and what they have been doing hasn't been working.

Char/Mil under 209 - New coach Krystowiak is putting major emphasis on defense with his new team, and Charlotte, a bad and tired team will be the perfect victim to be held down. Milwaukee will probably try to hold Charlotte to under 80 or something like that, and they will probably succeed.
