Basketball Parlay of the Day - Friday, 3/9/07
SBR will give the winner of the March Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest a sparkling new 19-inch LCD DVI Monitor! Keep in mind guys that I WANT to win this thing myself, so you all better bring your "A" games to beat me!!

For those of you unfamiliar with the contest, here are the rules:

Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok. You have until five minutes before tip time of your first game to post the selections. Also note that all plays will now be graded against a uniform line! I will post the lines from Pinnacle at approximately 11 AM ET each day. Those of you wishing to make selections before then may do so without posting your lines, and they will be graded against my posted lines.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will keep two sets of standings: the Official Standings will be based on parlay units won/lost, and the secondary standings will be on a game-by-game basis ranked by winning percentage.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

The player with the most units won after the games of March 31 will win the winner-take-all grand prize. Note that you must play at least 15 days (30 plays) during the month to qualify for the prize! In case of a tie in units, the tiebreaker will be the better winning percentage. If still tied, the contest will be extended with the tied players making one parlay selection per day at the start of April until the tie is broken. NO PASSES will be allowed during this extension period, and any of the tied players doing so will be eliminated regardless of the other player(s) results for that day.

Good Luck to All (but not too much...I need a new monitor!)

    Fine Print:

1 entry per household and IP address.

Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits

    Tie breakers:
Will be decided by win % of individual parlay legs. 2nd tiebreaker is based on additional daily parlays until one person breaks tie.

15 parlays must be made in the month.

All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.

SBR will pick a DVI LCD monitor that is features on this page when winner is decided.

Detroit PK: Line looks almost too good to be true. On one end you have a team that plays team ball with great chemistry...on the other, not so much, lots of standing around and 1 on 1 play.

Los Angeles -1.5: Kobe will be back, and angry after his 1 game suspension in his home town, look for a huge game from him and a solid win for LA.

The Cavs need to regain momentum after losing to Wake Forest in their regular season finale. NC State went OT to beat Duke and they have virtually no bench to begin with. Cavs won both regular season meetings by 5 pts or more.

            Michigan St. +4
Spartans beat the Badgers once at home and then lost by 2 on the road. This game should be close throughout and I believe the Spartans cold outright win this to lock up a tournament bid.

Lebron's buddies are out to prove that they are good ball players as well... They have proved it all season and I believe the line on this one is a few points too low... Think the Zips take this one by close to 10!

              Washington State +1
Wazzu beat a streaking Washington team last night by 10... USC had a hard fought victory over Stanford in OT... Wazzu is playing really solid ball and we'll go with the Cougars winning this one outright!

Boston College- Miami won a huge game as an underdog last night and will not be as up for a BC team that historically does well in this tournament

KState- Kansas St. needs this win to get in and Texas Tech historically has not done well after a 3 game winning streak.

Illinois +2 I'm happy to be getting any points at all in this one. I can't remember the last time the Illini lost at the United Center. This is a pseudo home game for them while Indiana is terrible on the road.

Purdue -2.5 Riding the bubble teams in the Big Ten today. Painter and the all conference seniors will get the job done today. My guess is Iowa doesn't shoot 60% and Purdue won't go 13-27 from the line like the game in Carver Hawkeye a couple weeks back.

MIAMI HEAT -6: Shaq has discovered the Fountain of Youth since Wade went down to injury, and the Heat are playing their best ball of the season right now. Miami has won five if its last six games SU and it is 6-1 ATS in the last seven. The Timberwolves were handed a win by the Lakers on Tuesday, but that snapped a seven-game ATS losing streak and we expect them to revert back to that poor form here.

DENVER NUGGETS +1: The Nuggets should have Carmello Anthony back in the lineup tonight after he stayed behind in Denver for their last game due to the birth of his first child. Denver is also looking to get back to .500, and we feel that this team is just too talented to wallow in mediocrity like this. Anthony has been threatened with a benching if his play does not become more team-oriented, and we actually expect a good performance from both he and his team tonight given this marquis opponent. The Pistons have returned to the lethargy that they have displayed for most of the season, as they are on an 0-5 ATS streak. Detroit has allowed its opponents to build big early leads lately, and we expect more of the same.

Fighting Illini are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as an underdog.
Fighting Illini are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 neutral site games.

The line is a little better now, but no matter. Give me double digits when I have the tougher team, the better defense, and the best player on the court, especially when I've got a team that has already played on this court and will have most of the fans on their side.

                          USC +1
This should be USC and Washington playing here, but the highway robbery that was the officiating in the late game last night allowed Washington State to advance. They won't be so fortunate in Los Angeles against hometown USC.

LSU -3.5 I think their OT win last night gives them enough momentum to get by an avergage Ole Miss team. LSU has won 3 of 4 and I don't think their legs will get tired until tommorrow.

Nevada -7 I'll take the better team in basically every category here. If it's a close game Nevada is a good FT shooting team and that should get them the cover.

T'wolves +6 and Min/Mia over 181.5 - Since Wittman became the T'wolves interim coach Jan. 23, the team is 1-8 on the road, but not for a lack of effort. Their 8 losses include 3 OT defeats and a 1 point loss at Dallas, just can't buy a win, and only one real blowout at Houston.

On the other side, the fat and happy Wade-less Heat are now out of playoff elimination danger and have defeated each of the top 4 seeds in the Eastern Conference over the last 2 weeks, letting everyone know they aren't dead quite yet. I think this is a good spot to catch them napping a bit against a team outside their conference, and since they are fat and happy at the moment, they may be playing about a half step behind the T'wolves tonight. (I'll actually be parlaying T'wolves ML and over with real $$$, 5-1 odds seems like an excellent price for this scenario).

Damn, I was hoping they'd be playing Mizzou instead, but only laying 9 against Baylor excites me. This should be a high scoring game with TX hitting 80+. I just don;t see any way that Baylor can hang with UT in this one. Plus, my daughter (who turns 3 weeks old today is 3-0 ATS (and straight up) when wearing her UT gear. She didn't dress for the Kansas game, but did for the 3 previous games. I'll be teasing this large, as a main cog in about 5-6 teasers. Only thing that worries me is that damn back door, with TX wanting to rest their starters for what should be a long weekend.

                                Arkansas -2'
Narrowly edges TX A&M -8... Arkansas played their best half of the season in yesterday;s 2nd half. They played BIG. Townes and Hill formed a presence in the frontcourt. Beverly played poorly but they still got a 30 point win. They looked loose, and I expect today to be no different (except Beverly goes for 20+).

Trying my 'no-lose' strategy on this one. Being the pessimist that I am, especially about my favorite teams, I'm taking the Cowboys and the points in this one. Okie State is probably still pissed about the whuppin' the Fightin' Texas Aggies administered to them up in Stillwater in February. Afraid my Aggies might also be looking ahead to playing Texas and/or Kansas. If A&M covers, I still win on a personal note. If the Cowboys keep it within the number, I've got half a parlay.

                                  Texas -9 vs Baylor
The Bears shot their wad last night and Texas is, in my opinion, about to start a little run through March right now. Hate backing my rivals and laying so many points at the same time, but this one seems easy.

the reasoning here is the same for both. early tourney games, these teams will probably be focusing on D, and the totals listed give a bit of a cushion to work with.

Cowboys are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.

Cowboys are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win.
Cowboys are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games as an underdog.
Cowboys are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game.

Method points to Celtics (as always), but can't pass up the bargain here. If no Delonte West, Celts may be especially helpless down the stretch with Pierce as only option.

Too many points vs. Rockets, never a powehouse at home. Nets are rested and should compete for 48 in a low-scoring game. Nets also may recall 96-71 pasting at NJ in December. Yao factor creates little additional fear of a blow out.

Hey Willie, best of luck to you on your play (especially since it does NOT conflict with my parlay, though it does conflict with my A&M to cover bet. Really, I made a large bet (4.5 point teaser) to get A&M -3.5 and UT -4.5. Needing it. Feeling it.

Definitely hoping for a rematch. Hell, if these teams played once a week for 30 straight weeks, I'd be thrilled

BYU -7: Wyoming upset Air Force yesterday, but considering how bad Air Force has been recently, that's really not that impressive. BYU is a much better team and should win this one going away.

Texas -9: Texas should be ready for the postseason after a good end to the regular season -- despite losing at KU last weekend. Both times they played Baylor close this season, so they shouldn't overlook them and should look to give a dominating performance here.

                                                        Louisville +2.5, NO Hornets +10

Petino loves being an underdog, and no one has taken the Cards serious this season.

CP3 and the Hornets are playing great ball lately and the Suns are not blowing anyone out since the break.

Golden State -5.5 Home court advantage and the Clippers just suck.

Clippers / Warriors over 199 These 2 teams have combined to score in the past and I think GS should get over 110 easily here and the Clippers only need to not fall asleep.
