Assist to Turnover Ratio Calculation and Help
I want to work assist to turnover ratio more formally into my handicapping, but I need some help understanding it.

If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated, thanks.

    Sample using avg/game:

    Team A: 12 assists, 16 turnovers
    Team B: 18 assists, 16 turnovers

    Questions:
    1. What would be Team A's assist to turnover ratio here?
    2. How can I score Team A's A/TO ratio in one numeric value (a rating or a score) for purposes of handicapping?

Any other input or source refernce on A/TO ratios most welcome and thanks again . . .

Calculating the ratio is the easy part, simply assists/turnovers. So Team A would be 0.75 (12/16) and Team B would be 1.12.

As for the second part of your question, I'll leave that one up to the mathameticians here (Ganchrow, Edgar) to help you.

            1. How can I score Team A's A/TO ratio in one numeric value (a rating or a score) for purposes of handicapping?
The simplest and most direct way of doing this would be to look at the ratio of Team A's assist to turnover ratio to Team B's assist to turnover ratio. In other words:

            Team A Assists × Team B Turnovers
            -----------------------------------
            Team A Turnovers × Team B Assists

Using your figures from above, this would give us a statistic of (12×16)÷(16×18) = ⅔ for Team A and a statistic of (16×18)÷(12×16) = 1½ for Team B.
