Opinion question: Joel Embid v. Bill Russell
Comparing the two centers, is Joel Embid's career currently greater than Bill Russell's career?
And while I'm asking, is Joel Embid currently one of the top five NBA centers than ever played.

Now, before you say SALOON THIS SHIT, I already did.

I don’t think he’s enough of a ‘game changer’ like Kareem or Hakeem Olajuwon were. Also, not ‘elite’ until he gets a ring. Off the top of my head, those 2 and:

      The Admiral
      Robert Parish
      Wilt The Stilt
      Shaq
      The aforementioned Bill Russell

      All better than Embiid

Chief doesn't get near the credit he deserves..
Maybe because of the All-Stars he was surrounded with..
          I dunno..

Bird loved both Chief and DJ
He had a love/hate affair with McHale, he used to call him "Lurch" drove him crazy.
Bird drove half the league crazy, one of the best small forwards to ever play the game.

              No and No.

I'm 45 and don't think he is in top 5 centers in my lifetime.

Yeah, I think there was a lot of competition between Bird and McHale..
                Both were deceivingly quick..
I thought Bird was a shooting guard and DJ was the small forward..

Can we get a ring count for each player?

I already went there and was told "the players weren't close to athletic" by our resident genius..
                        Whatever "close to athletic" means..

I believe he was but everyone knows he was a shooting guard except for his coach and teammates..

                              I'm sorry

Didn't Bill Russell win 8 championships in 10 years?

I mean, honestly....we really need to compare?

Bill Russel is on a pedestal by himself in nba terms, w MJ 1 inch below him, and EVERYONE else, in another universe

I'm sure Russell was great but I don't like the rings argument.

but when he came into the league, winning a ring vs the other 7 teams consisting of fort wayne, rochester, syracuse just wasn't the same thing

all you had to do was win 3 playoff games and you were suddenly in the Championship final

                                    beyond that..

as a rookie he joined a team with 6 other hall of famers..... talk about a super team
