Rumor: Kevin Durant 'planning' a move to join LeBron James
While the Lakers decision to waive Luol Deng saved them money but also made it nearly impossible for a Jimmy Butler trade, but Deng also waiving over seven million dollars will allow them to pursue Durant in free agency.
There have been plenty of voices to the contrary, suggesting the partnership won't work or that Durant has his eyes on another big market such as New York. But there has also been just as much smoke surrounding the situation.
At this time last year, the rumor mill was pointing to Paul George in a Lakers uniform before he eventually signed a long-term deal to stay in Oklahoma City. At the same time, the LeBron-to-Lakers rumors had about a two-year build up before it actually happened.
It appears that there is a concerted effort from at least one side to make this look like a potential partnership next season in purple and gold. But as we've seen too many times in the NBA, every day is a new day.

Spoke to a source today who confirmed Kevin Durant will be a LA Laker next year.
“Just like LeBron planned his move LA a year or more earlier, #KD is doing the same right now.
