So let me get this straight: LAL (+9) was up 13 going into the fourth quarter. Still led by 8 with 8 minutes left. Still led by 1 with 3 minutes left. Still trailed by 2 with 1:45 left. Yet somehow lost by 11? How in the hell do you get out-scored by 24 points in ONE QUARTER (the 4th, no less) on your home court?

There are several ways it can happen. A team can score 12 more two-pointers than you in the quarter. A team can also score 8 more three-pointers than you in a quarter. Technically, a team could even score 24 more free throws than you in a quarter. All of these hypothetical scenarios would result in a 24-point swing for the team in question.

However, the more likely path to achieving this result is a combination of these scoring plays. For example, a team can score 8 more two-pointers, 2 more three-pointers, and 2 more free throws (16 + 6 + 2 = 24). A team can also score 4 more two-pointers, 3 more three-pointers, and 7 more free throws (8 + 9 + 7 = 24). These are just two of the thousands of scoring combinations that can result in a 24-point swing in a basketball game.

So without boring you with other facets of the game that can produce the result in question, this is a general overview of how a basketball team can outscore their opponent by 24 points in one quarter.

Less than three months ago, the Nevada Wolf Pack men's basketball team overcame a 25-point deficit in the second half to defeat the New Mexico Lobos. So your statement is patently false, sir.

Oof, I would've quit for life. I had Texas A & M when they came back down 12 in the final minute against Northern Iowa in the tourney last year, but that was obviously a delightful experience.

Lakers were lucky to even be up, beal, wall, oubre, markieff went to work the last few minutes. Lakers had no defense or offensive answers

i know you guys are pointing out extreme cases.......... but the GSW are constantly behind fairly substantial well into games....... my beloved toronto raptors constantly comeback or blow 10+ point leads significantly into the 2nd half.

i didn't realize that sac-town made a huge comeback recently..... good for them as they blew some massive leads against good teams post-cousins trade

It's was the tail of two sides. Lakers couldn't miss in the 3rd qtr literally. They missed their first shot of the 3rd then proceeded to hit 15 in a row. Then they couldn't hit a shot in the 4th.
