In soccer, we usually just buy players outright. Example real madrid paid £80 million to Manchester United for Ronaldo. In the NBA it's either trades or free agency (as far as I know it)

and thats exactly the reason why most european soccer leagues suck. The main thing is there are 4-5 teams that are the wealthiest and every year the finals are coming down between them while the remaining 15 teams fight for who is shittier. This applies to every major league in europe; england, spain, italy, portugal, germany, france. They dont have drafts when the worst teams have a chance to actually pick up some talent. If a bottom feeder team discovers a hidden gem, the bigger dogs will just buy it later.
