The guy is super mellow. Makes him hard to read. He looked bad in warm ups. Missed a lot and looked disinterested, but that is his style.

He is not quite a leader of men at this point in his life.

You might have hit the nail on the head there. Just a little inexperienced at this point. He can feel it, so his defense mechanism not to look scared is the super mellow behavior.
