Basketball Parlay of the Day Contest - Monday, 2/2/09
Starting Monday (February 2), we will start a February Hoops Parlay Contest with a grand prize of a $125 cash account at Legendz, 2 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 Legendz account with a 2 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and game-by-game record (15 parlay minimum), the last place prize will be divided equaly.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at Legendz to be prize eligible Sign up here

To be eligible to win prizes, all players must PM their Legendz account ID to SBRforum Staff NO LATER than 6:00pm ET on Monday, February 2!

    1. Check in the NBA BASKETBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 2:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Posted spreads and totals are the only eligible plays for grading, no Money Lines or Halves allowed. NBA and NCAA Men's Colege Basketball will be included.

    3. Two-game parlay picks, laying 10 to win 26. Post entire parlay at same time, no open parlays.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two about why you are making your play. If need be, please refer to prior month's contests for examples.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis for both games will be NO ACTION. Once your two-team parlay has been posted, you CANNOT change either play. Any edited post will count as a *-LOSS! If you make a mistake (such as leaving out "Over" or "Under" or not clearly stating your selection), need to add analysis or wish to enter corrected lines, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not tip off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not parlay selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts or congratulatory posts. Any player with two edit violations during the course of the contest shall be ELIMINATED FROM PRIZE ELIGIBILITY.

*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the player will be credited with a WIN.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per household and IP address.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one parlay pick per day, minimum 15 parlay plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for prizes - Win % of individual parlay legs. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head parlay match until winner determined.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

515 SanAntonio (SanAntonio won the only meeting between these 2 this year by 35 points. I dont see the -4.5 being a problem)

521 Kansas (Kansas has won the L7 meetings between these 2 teams and 9 out of the L10. I see this trend continuing.)

                Dallas/Orlando UNDER 208
                Charlotte/ Utah UNDER 194.5

I am a big fan of betting opposite of what happened last game. Both of these games fall into the "They scored a lot of points their last meeting and scored a lot of points their last night on the court". All 4 of these teams have been hot offensively, and none of the four teams really scare anybody defensively. That said, I feel it will go absolutely opposite of that reasoning and both UNDERS should cover.

-Lakers on the road does not even phase me here. I imagine them as a 7-9pt favorite and this just seems like pure value.

                  Orlando Magic -6

-At home not too many pts to give against a western conference pretender.

                    530 Georgia Southern -4

While not being the best team in the Southern Conference, Georgia Southern is going to show up at home against Appalachian State--a team that has a worse offense, a worse defense, lost 4 out of their last 5 away from home, and almost lost to Furman on Saturday.

                    533 Western Kentucky pk

Arkansas St. is a small team that can't hit 3's and shoots a FG% of 46.5. Western Kentucky, on the other hand, is a taller team, they're 16th best in the nation when it comes to 3-point accuracy, and they have a FG% of 53. They win at Arkansas St. tonight.

Wisconsin Green Bay +1.5 This is a good home team. Butler beat them by 9 last time they played a few weeks ago, and it was close the whole game till the end. Revenge them being at home this time.

Golden St +4.5 Just as Rhickas said above, San Antonio won by 35 less then 2 mths ago covering the -12, now they are -4.5 that seems way to low after they destroyed them already this yr. Golden St is not a bad home team will take my chances.
If it seems to good to be true it usually is!!

I have a natural instinct to exploit market ineffieciencies!!

BOBCATS +8.5: These are two teams heading in opposite directions, as Charlotte is 7-3 ATS the last 10 games while Utah is 1-7 ATS last eight. The Bobcats have held their own in the head-to-head series going 4-2 ATS the last six meetings, and this is the best CHarlotte team in franchise history. The Jazz are short-handed and they have not been as dominant at home as usual, going just 13-11 ATS.

SPURS-4.5: The Spurs are on a roll, winning seven of their last eight with the only loss being to the Lakers. They are also a fantastic 14-7 straight up on the road. The Warriors are just 15-33 overall and 10-11 at home, and they have one of the worst defenses in the NBA, surrendering a horrible 111.2 points per game on the year. The Spurs won the first meeting at home 123-88, and I don't think the venue change will make that much difference.

Siena only had one game this year where they score less than this total in conference games. It won’t happen again.

Have dominated Baylor over the years and will continue tonight. Should be a close game, but Kansas will come out on top.

                                  Connecticut +3

Better all around team. Solid on the road. Time for Louisville to lose. This will be a defensive struggle, but Connecticut's big men are bigger and better.

Not sure why the line is so low, Lakers are a complete team even without Bynum. Look for the Lakers to shut down New York's fast-paced offense.

Mon 2/2 515 San Antonio Spurs -4½ Warriors are banged up up. Parker and Duncan should be able to to lead them to a win/cover with no problems!

Dallas Mavericks +6 With the magic playing yesterday and Dallas resting and not traveling at al, this def should be a + for Dallas. Also Dallas is finally on a nice little winning streak and Ill take them + the pts in a good hard fought battle!

Mon 2/2 517 Connecticut +3 - Louisville is hot lately, but UConn is a rock solid team all around. I think this will be close wire-to-wire, so getting 3 points with the #1 team in the nation just seems a logical play.

520 Wisc Green Bay +1½ - Wisc-GB has been looking forward to this game for awhile and will bring their A-game against Butler. IMO, Butler has been less than impressive this year and I think this is a prime opportunity for fading them. Can see GB winning by 6 or 7.

-Lakers on the road does not even phase me here. I imagine them as a 7-9pt favorite and this just seems like pure value.

Grizzlies/Wizards Under 194½ : These are a couple teams that don't give the best effort on defense, but tonight, both teams sense the opportunity for a rare win and should play tighter D.

Bobcats/Jazz Under 194½ Jazz should be a slower-paced team without Deron

Not sure why the line is so low, Lakers are a complete team even without Bynum. Look for the Lakers to shut down New York's fast-paced offense.
The sportsbooks are giving away money today to those who want it and know how to get it. Lakers will outscore Knicks by over 10 points in the 4Q alone!
People say the Mavericks have beaten Magic in the last 2 meetings in Orlando but what they easily ignore is that this season's Mavericks are worse than the Mavericks that beat Magic last year, while this year's Magic are a notch better than the Magic of 2 years ago. Magic will win the 1H as they usually do by at least 5 points and build on that lead in the 2H. Mavericks are too inconsistent for one to put any money on them. People are carried away by their last win at Miami but they easily forget that Miami then was just back from a 7-day road trip. Magic will beat the hell out of the Mavericks like they did to Cavaliers and Lakers!

Orlando has been spectacular against the spread this season. Dallas is break even on the road against the 4th best home team thus far this year. Too much pointing in Orlando's direction this game for me to think otherwise.

                                                          530 Georgia Southern -4
Two not so hot teams playing each other but GS is 5-2 at home this year. I think the most interesting stat that makes me bet GS here is the fact that all of their home wins this season have been by 4+. Add on the fact that AS is 2-7 on the road this season with all of those losses but 1 being by 4+ makes me feel very comfortable with this cap.

New Orleans Hornets -3½ - I cap this game at about a NO -7, so at -3.5 I find this to be a gift. As well, NO is 3-1 as a favorite with a UNDER/OVER like in today's game, while Portland is a meer 0-3.

Los Angeles Clippers +9½ - The Clippers are definitely a poor team when you look at their record. However, I cap this game at about Miami -8. It seems like the spread is not TOO far off, however, given the nature of LAC's much more difficult Western Conference based schedule, I see advantage to LAC with this high number.
