Warriors Fans: Any insight for us on Carl Landry??
With David Lee out, Carl Landry should be getting some serious playing time tonight. I don't watch many Warriors games but, by all statistical measures, Landry looks like an above average offensive player. My question is, how well does he defend and rebound, and how does he get his points? Lee has a reputation for being a terrible defender, how much better is Landry than Lee? Also, how well does Landry rebound, how much worse is he than Lee in that department? Lastly, can Landry score inside or does he do most of his work with mid-range jumpers? With Bogut being offensively challenged this year, the Warriors need someone who can score in the paint so they aren't completely reliant on long-range jumpers.

I think these are some important factors for tonight's game. Points for anyone with some insight on this.

David Lee is the worst post defender in the history of the league. GSW will improve on defense soley based on Lee's absence. But it kills their offense in the post almost to the same degree. I would expect much more emphasis on GSW's guard play, and for them to carry the scoring load. Expect more three point shots.

Landry is solid but he is a bit undersized at the PF position. Probably one of the better backup PF's in the league.

my opinions, quick draw style, on your questions as an avid GSW fan that has watched them for about 20 years with extreme passion and fervor. just thinking out loud

he is an equal or slightly lesser defender than Lee, that being not great. i think festus ezeli will see a lot of minutes because of this, if we can continue to slow Denver's pace with him and Bogut in the game at the same time. i'm not sure that Jackson will attempt this, but it's something I've been thinking about since Lee went down.

he is much worse at rebounding the ball than Lee. while he is almost as tall as Lee and close in frame, he just does not have the knack for the ball that Lee does. he will work extremely hard though, and is not horrible by any means in this facet.

he can take it on the low/mid/high block. he's not a great offensive player, but he is pretty versatile. he will absolutely nail the 10-14 footer when he's on, and he has great footwork in the post and is excellent at utilizing pump fakes to get open layups and/or draw fouls. good defenders can shut him down, but he can also abuse poor to average defenders at times. all said, i wouldn't expect a huge offensive game from him whatsoever.

I actually think Lee has defended much better with Bogut in the lineup. In my opinion Lee is an average to even slightly above average on ball defender, but is severely lacking as a help defender. In this way he's benefited greatly with Bogut in. To your question, Landry is about a wash with Lee on the defensive end, even slightly worse considering he is an inch shorter.

disclaimer is, Lee has 56 double doubles. not that many people will rebound as well as him.

Thanks YouHave2Outs, exactly what I was looking for, I was getting the feeling that Landry is actually worse than Lee defensively. For some reason I can't transfer points, do I need to become a pro?

Youhave2outs basically gave it out for you. Landry was my outsider for sixthman of the year for a long time until he started going through a rough patch. He's been playing great in the league with average minutes since he was with the Rockets (big reason the Lakers had to sweat it out in 09). He will definetly be a guy that's able to match the energy of say, Faried and he's an excellent finisher around the rim with he's good footwork and aggressive style. He's actually a better offensive rebounder than Lee, but don't expect him to be able to keep the Nuggs off the offensive glass like Lee did, or throw the kind of outlet passes Lee did. Just like 2outs said, this game is now all on the guards and Bogut.

They are pretty similar except Landry is a blackhole and Lee a great passer

alright, so we're thinking the Warriors will rely on their guards to create offensively even more than usual, with Landry playing the role of a finisher when Denver helps off of him. He's not going to be creating for others but can knock down open mid-range jumpers and is a decent finisher inside. Defensively, he is just as bad on the floor and a worse rebounder.

The Majority of what I said came true. Their guards dominated the ball, plus they shot and made more 3pointers compared to the first game.

As to my analysis of David Lee's porous defense this is evidenced by the bottom chart which was used @ this years Sports analytics conference @ MIT. Practically the topic was about interior defenders effect on shots that are not blocked, but deter offense from taking easy shots. Lee deters nothing....

                    Thaks you pompous fool.

that is a funny chart but lee is a 4 so I dont know if that is quite fair but he is a horrible defender for sure thats why Epke Udoh always had wasy better +/- than him before he got traded to Milwaukee.
