Lakers are gonna dump Kobe and the $30M salary..
oh, they won't come out and announce it right away, (it would look awful)
but you can be sure they are going to dump the most expensive player in the league

they have no option about it, the decision was made the instant the news on
    the Achilles was confirmed.

Lakers must do this to move forward..
they will remain responsible for his $30M salary.. (no way out of that)
but this move would eliminate luxury taxes associated with that salary..
which have recently become much more severe.

Really the choice they are faced with is: potential for growth or Kobe (the future or the past)
his salary will greatly hinder their growth if they do not act.

you are grossly under estimating Kobe's marketing worth. For someone like Kobe, Ability is only half the Salary and the other half is crowd Draw, Interest and merchandise. Despite Kobes large salary, his name alone brings profit in the Millions to the Lakers organization from all over the world. Every team in the League would clamor to snag Kobe just to get a cut of the Kobe brand.

Another current example of someone who fits that mold would be Jeremy Lin

i really think that his brand will wane in his absence.. it will certainly be diminished
when (if) he returns and hobbles through 12 minutes of play..

he won't be able to go to the basket, and is already miserable from beyond the arc...
he is shooting UNDER 20% form deep, since the All-Star break..

i do not expect that to improve... so what will be left in his game...?
except forcing things and tarnishing his legacy..

you must understand that Laker fans ARE ADDICTED to winning... more so than other fans..
because of the good fortune*of having Jerry West draft for so many years,
and having a TON of MONEY to sign and KEEP those*players happy.

Fans will turn on Kobe if they determine that his Salary is limiting the options available to the laker franchise.
nobody wants to lose.. and i believe it is especially frustrating for Laker fans..*

Yankee fans have a similar dilemma in MLB

Well they should dump his salary...as it is the wisest business move they can make at this point. But It will not happen. The Kobe draw is too much to ignore...At this point...the Lakers as a franchise cannot survive without a name brand to sell the team...I dun think they care about winning in the immediate anymore. It is no longer about getting Kobe a 6th ring...its about collecting revenue and filling the seats....which they can still do by having Kobe's presence there...they were in the same situation after Magic came down with HIV....they will go back to being that franchise..they were during Jordan's reign.....(1992-2000).. Mediocre bench with Mediocore star players...they might make the playoffs a few times and get bounced out in the early rounds......If Phil were the GM, he would probably do it.....but Mitch and them buss kids don't have the stomach for it.....

The Laker's share of Kobe's jersey sales is probably more than the luxury taxes...

Also, Kobe is only Kobe in LA. He is larger than life because of all the moments he has given the fanbase in addition to being badass.

Hard to see Kobe in a Charlotte bobcats uniform... lol. He could sell them but only about 5% as many as he sells in LA.

Not a Laker Fan but I do admire what he does on the court.

And one more thing. Everyone throws the rapist/cheater line around way too liberally. There are only two people that know what happenned that night and they both have different stories. Was she looking to cash in after effin his brains out? Maybe. did he rape her? Maybe. But we throw that around like it is a fact. It is difficult to believe that Kobe would have to resort to raping anybody.

it would be smart for lakers to waive kobe, pay the 30mil as its his final year, then re-sign him on a new contract after he finishes rehabbing to start season 2014-2015. Gasols massive contract will have expired, the only one will be nash and if howard re-signs. Make a run at FA's and retool.

Kobe should ask to be amnestied and the Lakers should do it. Let Kobe come back halfway thru the season and pick his own team. The Lakers don't have the wherewithall to ever give Kobe enough during what little is left of his career, and Kobe desperately wants to win#6...and 7. Heck he could play for the Clippers. That's the LA team he can win a title with, potentially.

Irving isn't going anywhere for years. Burke is gonna be good, but they'd have to trade up. Burke is a lottery pick.

irving too good of a player not to move from that shit hole team just like chris paul.....theyre not just guards there players you can become a legit team with....like for instance you think john wall will ever leave washington? no because hes not good team worthy......i can honestly see irving playing with dwight howard and making some noise....now that kobe is gone so is the jordanessque players its all big men that move like guards

He's one of the most recognised athletes on the planet. Even people who don't have a clue, or don't care about basketball know who he is. That kind of brand awareness is well worth the $30 million to the Lakers. He'll stay relevant by just being in the public eye & continuing to endorse products while he recovers.

Funny how this psychopath says "Kobe is the problem" then when kobe goes down "Lakers are fukked". Get kobe's dik out your mouth little bitch.

Dont come to a Ratzz thread trying to get anything logical out of him. Wait until he gets Kobe's dik out his mouth and the PCP and LSD wear off a bit.
