Has anyone come across a stat tracking that sort of thing? Over the past season? Past 5 years, 10 tens? Or even what the av margin of victory is would be nice.

It depends on the spread, but its around 30.4% for all games since 1996

Last year 26% of all games ended with a 5 point margin or less.

It varies team to team though. For example last year only 17% of the celtics wins were by 5 points or less, but 56% of their losses are 5 points or less.
