The Lakers are such a public favourite, which explains why the linemakers set the spread so high; they know that whatever line they set, the public will be all over it. So, in the minds of a linemaker, they think of a reasonable spread, then inflate it to make it hard to beat. Most bettors bet for leisure purposes only; they'll pick the better team to win no matter how many points they have to lay.

Including tonight's ATS loss, the Lakers have lost 6 straight times ATS, which were all double-digit spreads. (-12, -14, -11.5, -13.5, -17, and -15.5). In fact, dating back to Nov-5, the Lakers have been favoured ATS by DD twelve times and have only covered on three occasions.
