New To Sports Betting - Somewhat
A few months ago I put down a $20 money line bet on two underdog NCAAF teams at the suggestion of a friend. I won $240 + $20 and since then I've been betting NFL games. I'm running close to even as far as football, but my NBA picks aren't doing as well. I probably win about 25% of my bets when it comes to basketball. Here are my bets for today. Hopefully I can get some advice after the games are over.

    Ticket #1

    • Mavs -4
    • Knicks -9
    • Pistons -7
    • Hawks -3
    • Clippers +1
    • Lakers -9

    Bet: $3
    Payout: $132 + $3

    Ticket #2

    • Mavs -4
    • Knicks -9
    • Pistons -7
    • Hawks -3
    • Nuggets -1
    • Lakers -9

    Bet: $2
    Payout: $88 + $2

(Tickets #1 and #2 are similar because I was unsure about the Nuggets vs. Clippers)

    Ticket #3

    • Knicks -9
    • Clippers +1
    • Lakers -8.5

    Bet: $5
    Payout: $30 + $5

    Ticket #4

    • Knicks -9
    • Clippers +1

    Bet: $5
    Payout: $13 + $5

    Ticket #5

    • Lakers -8.5
    • Pistons -6.5

    Bet:$5
    Payout: $13 + $5

    Ticket #6

    • Clippers +1
    • Lakers -8.5

    Bet: $5
    Payout: $13 + $5

    Ticket #7

    • Knicks -9
    • Pistons -6.5

    Bet: $5
    Payout: $13 + $5

    Ticket #8

    • Clippers +1
    • Pistons -6.5

    Bet: $5
    Payout: $13 + 5

    Ticket #9

    • Knicks -9
    • Lakers -8.5

    Bet: $5
    Payout: $13 + $5

My total bet comes to $40. I'm wading in slow because I've been on a losing streak the last 2 weeks. I guess we'll see how it turns out.

One question for you......If you are unsure of the Clips game, why would you have them on 5 tickets? You lose that game and over half your tickets crash and burn.

I was thinking about that, but I've been running with Clippers bets for about 2 weeks now and so far so good. I'm thinking they win, but at the last second I put in the other ticket as a little insurance hopefully. I'm pretty confident in the other picks though.

Best advice I can give is to bet on singles and up your bet. Why would you bet on a 6 game parlay? You miss one game and you lose. Bet $10 each game and hope for 4-2 or more..even 3-3 I wouldnt complain. Theres gambling for the rush and gambling to profit. If you hit a 6 game parlay are you going to feel amazing? Yes. And you'll probably waste a hundred tickets before hitting the next. Slow and steady wins the race.

The 6 team parlays were teaser tickets and I had $5 to put somewhere so I figured I'd give it a shot. As far as betting more, I plan to, but if you missed it above, I've been on a losing streak. I've picked teams that won but didn't cover or as in the case of the Falcons game Sunday, lost outright.

I agree with you about slow and steady. That's why my 2 six teamers only total $5 combined. I call them my Longshot BS Tickets. I'll never bet more than $5 total on 2 tickets combined.
