alright i'll go... i like the Knicks here as we have a rare early/mid season matchup where both teams will be bring their A game. I just think the Knicks are the more complete team at this point in the year and are worth a play at basically a pick 'em price. Brooklyn has so many new pieces that are still trying to gel with one another and I think that will hurt them late in this game. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Brooklyn was the better team by the end of the year once they get Joe Johnson going and find ways to use Brooks. Also I think Avery Johnson is a perfect coach for this team as he already is getting these guys to play D but as of today the Knicks will execute better down the stretch

Gerald Wallace will shut down Carmelo. Nets are 6-1 at home. I like the nets right now

Lol Gerald Wallace. No one can stop Carmelo ATM. I think NYK gets an early lead with strong perimeter shooting and coast to an easy win.

I like the Nets +1.5 for a few reasons.

1.) Backcourt play. Felton and Kidd have been very solid for NY, but can they match up with D-Will and Joey Buckets? My heart and head tell me no
2.) Wallace on Melo- can anyone stop Carmelo atm? Himself maybe in quarters 2-4 after an amazing first quarter, but besides that maybe not. But he can be slowed down. That's what I expect from G-Wally. Slow Melo down.
3.) Bench play- The Knicks may have JR Smith, but who besides him comes off the pine for NY that worries you? Sheed or Novak to chuck awful threes? NO thank you. Brooklyn meanwhile has depth for days. CJ Watson, Marshawn, Reggie Evans, Bogans, Blatche... they even have my man Childress getting Rick BARRY'D on that depth chart.
4.) Homecourt. This is the first really marquee matchup in the early portion of the season for Brooklyn. Expect the crowd to be hella into it. As mentioned ITT Brooklyn is 6-1 at home as well

So maybe I'm wrong, but I think the Knicks struggles will continue tonight. Brooklyn plays better team D, especially of late, and they match up well with the Knicks, moreso than the Knicks do with them.

Edit: Forgot to mention this: I like the fact that Lopez will be able to draw Chandler away from the basket as well. If Chandler doesn't follow him out to the 15-18 foot range Lopez will bury that team. If he does, it opens things up for Johnson and Williams to blow by Felton and kidd

brooklyn is the better team right now.

knicks are playing more in their system though.

knicks will be a better team in the playoffs in my opinion because of stoudemire who the nets will have no answer for.

IMO the Knicks are much better off with only Melo (or before Melo when they were only Amare)

They just don't gel, and both players do the same thing more or less, with Melo doing it quite a bit better at this point in the players respective careers.

I would love to see Amare come back and the Knicks keep winning with he and Melo crushing, but I can't see it unfortunately.

Knicks won't win in the playoffs without Stoudemire. This is the reg season so yeah you can win but in a playoff series where you have to play the same team over and over, adjustments are made. Melo can't do it by himself which is why he's only been out of the first round once in his whole career. Stoudemire is a top 15-20 player in the NBA and he requires a team to make adjustments and take more things into consideration.

I agree that the majority of Nets players could be considered better overall players than their counterparty on the Knicks. If the winner was decided by individual 1-1 games then I would have to take Brooklyn. But this is a team game and I think the Knicks are the more together team at this point in a matchup of two comparably talented teams. I do like your point with Lopez bringing Chandler out of the paint though since that has a serious affect on the Knicks team defense. Should be a good watch, I have this set at Brooklyn +2 so more of a gut feeling on the Knicks than anything.

Knicks own the Nets (oh yeah Brooklyn).. nothing will change but the jerseys. Going to be a 75% knicks crowd again and another home game for them.

Iguodala when he played for the sixers.. Slam dunk contest he should have won in 2006.
