Front Page NBA Picks (Tue, Nov 18)
LeBron & Cavaliers, Carter & Nets to sneak Over 198

    Game Time: 11/18/2008 07:35 PM -

The Cavaliers have become scoring machines, now that LeBron has some spare parts. The Nets are coming off of back-to-back shootouts, and look for another.

The Over may seem counter-intuitive in a matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New Jersey Nets, but the recent performances of these teams suggest that this game could eaily hit the 200s.

First of all, these are not the Cavaliers of recent seasons, who relied too heavily on LeBron James to carry the offense. This version has scored 100 points or more in six of the last seven games, and Cleveland scored 99 points in the only game during this streak where they did not crack the century mark.

Obviously, James is still leading the way at 29.8 points per game, but he is actually getting decent support this year from Maurice Williams, Delonte West and Zydrunas Ilgauskas, all of whom are averaging in double-digits.

As for the Nets, they are coming off of back-to-back shootouts vs. the Atlanta Hawks, sweeping those games by scores of 119-107 and 115-108. Moreover, all of their home games are averaging a combined 201.8 points, mainly due to a porous defense that is allowing 101.1 points per game overall and 104.2 points at home.

You can basically throw out the fact that the Under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings, given the different personalities of these teams this year. In fact, that trend may actually make this Over a tad undervalued here.

Free Pick: Cavaliers, Nets Over 198 (-110)

Chicago Bulls +12½ on road at Los Angeles Lakers

    Game Time: 11/18/2008 10:35 PM -
    By: Jim Feist | playbook.com

The Bulls are doing their best to keep up with the Cavs and Pistons in the Central, and that should help Chicago stay within this spread on the road in LA against the Lakers.

The Chicago Bulls (5-5) are trying to keep pace with the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers in their division.

The Bulls are coming off a win over the Pacers on Saturday, 104-91. Ben Gordon leads the team in scoring (21.3 ppg) while Drew Gooden leads in rebounds (8.6). The No. 1 draft pick in last year's NBA draft, Derrick Rose, has been a major factor in leading the Bulls to the best team in backcourt efficiency (+19.9) and perimeter scoring (+13). Rose already has four, 20+ scoring games and is first among rookies in assists and rebounding by a point guard.

"They are giving it to me. I'd be a fool not to shoot it," said Rose, who added eight assists, four rebounds and three steals in their win over the Pacers.

The Los Angeles Lakers (7-1) come off their first loss of the season, a 106-95 setback at home to the Pistons on Friday. The Lakers had been holding opponents to a league-low 86.7 points per game and 40.2 shooting before facing the Pistons. Detroit shot over 50% from the field and is the first team to break the century mark against the Lakers.

"They're one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, obviously," said Kobe Bryant, who scored 29 points but missed 18 of 30 shots. "And they caught us on a night when they were hot as a pistol and we were pretty cold."

Phil Jackson is 9-5 against his former team, but tonight the Bulls will come in under the double-digit line.

    Free Pick: Bulls +12½ (-110)
