As a motorsport fan I was equally shocked when I watched my first race, at Homestead I think in 06 or 07, when Kurt Busch T-Boned Stewart at about 70mph during a yellow. I could not believe no one was speaking about a lifetime ban or even a penalty. Really shocked.

I just accept that conventional etiquette is not expected here now.
