Whatever it takes to get people to take Mikey ;-)

That team doesn't park as standard btw. Well maybe 2 or 3 times this year, but their aim is to race. If they have enough cash for enough tires... (which I think they will this week like they did in Daytona 500 and Dega race, where they were competitive.)

this year they haven't but blaney's team is famous for it, because they sort of began the craze of regularly parking.

It's going to get harder for start and park operations next year. 2 new top teams from other series entering the field will squeeze out one or two straight away.

By the way, here's an article from 2009.

                        Another:

Prism Motorsports, which owns the No. 66 car driven by Dave Blaney, has earned over $1.1 million this season despite finishing just two of 12 races.

I used to play a start n park game on a Nationwide series forum I used to post at. About 25 people or more would have a go at picking the correct number of parkers and the order cars would drop out.

I didn't like them to start with either. But I think you just don't get the model. There is always going to be some shitty cars at the back. If they don't have full fields the ones at the back will very fast become terrible and we will have a much worse problem of donkeys interfering in the race. Paying all the way to the back keeps 43+ teams turning up even in bad economic times like now. It's a natural control on how shitty the back of the field can be.

The other big benefit of having those half dozen teams at the track every week is they keep surplus team members and third party suppliers employed in the down times.

yeah i have to agree...its not like it bothers anything for them to do it, and it is a good thing overall

some even make it to be actual teams that race the whole race

Thought that would be one you would play The game started as we hated so many start and parkers and it was to make fun of them. A bunch of team members posted on the forum too and arguments would errupt over it with the actual team members at times.

Busch (Nationwide) racing was in a slump at the time and some weeks there would be 10+ parkers.

                                I don't understand.

As it is now everyone has to be fast to get into the race. Even if they seem a bit slow compared to the front teams, they are not at all. If not for that competition for last place we would end up with a bunch of 4 year old chassis with rented engines circulating at 10mph below the leaders.

If they only paid prizemoney for say top 10 the purses would be gigantic and the gap between rich and poor teams would expand fast, eventually killing off most of the feeder teams we have now. Teams where drivers like Kurt Busch can get a drive, or Trevor Bayne can get a start.

I get that. It's not sporting. It's easy to despise. Until you really think about why NASCAR does it and the downsides of them not doing it. And seriously, it will improve next year and each year the economy does.

I wasn't saying only prizes for top 10. Just to cut off prizes for the last 5-10 spots. No one would park because they'd get nothing.

We got together $1600 and bought a set of tires for Morgan Shepard one race so he would race to the end when he first started star n parking.

Yeah sounds logical, but what do they do, alter the number of starters each year depending on demand? And where do the new people come from when it's time to expand again?

I'm not saying it's a perfect system, but after years of rule tweaking it's not as ill-considered or nonsensical as it often seems to people the first time they hear about it.
