Contest help for me regarding Jimmie Johnson

I'm in a contest where you use one driver a week for the chase, can't re-use.

I have JJ left, along with Burton, Bowyer, and lesser drivers like Mark Martin, Reutimann, etc.

Do I take JJ at Phoenix where he's really strong, or wait for the final week, which counts for double points in my contest?

how does he do at Homestead?

use now. no question about it. he hasnt had to ride hard at homestead in years past so you cant tell what hes got there. no brainer imo they guy is a stud here... btw im in a similar contest how in the world do you have all those good guys left for just two races?

it was only for 15 races

so I used ambrose, busches, gordon, kenseth, harvick, kahne, stewart, and a few others

Almost all sprint drivers.

thanks for the help. I saw that JJ hasn't won at Homestead, but I wasn't sure exactly how well he's done there. Next week I'll just figure out the best from the small group of decent to good drivers I have left.

I would have agreed if I had seen this earlier.Although I bet you wish you still had him for next week now.

Edwards is the stud at Homestead though, and after this week I'd be thinking about him to pull off a double if you haven't used him.

Maybe I should've saved 48. I was hoping he'd go top 3, but 5th ain't terrible.

It's going to be hard to figure out a driver for next week, though.

Worth having a close look at Truex's Homestead record, as another option to throw into the confusion.

where are you in the standings? you need a hailmary and use someone that top guys wont have in order to make the money?

well, I just got an update and it looks bleak.

I do need a hail mary.

I thought I'd make up points with JJ, but the others took JJ, Martin, Logano...

only one did poorly and took Burton

final race is double points, so I still have a chance

42 out of first, in 8th place

top 3 are paid

Marty junior springs to mind again.

It's his best track on the circuit.
4 top 10s in 5 Homestead starts. (crashed out on debut)
Best finish of 2nd in 06.
Avg finish of 6.8 and driver rating of 103.6 in last 4 starts. (Only Edwards and Kenseth have better ratings, and only Edwards averages a better finish)

The only question for me about him, is the team up to it this year?

still kinda like burton in this spot but another flyer would be mcmurray, the 1.5milers have been a huge strength and if he uses that car he had at charlotte he may end the year the way he began.

another that others def wont have is montoya, seeing he is a teammate to mcmurray he should be decent here, notice he qualified terribly though. let us know who your thinking

I ended up taking Optional's suggestion and going Truex.

It helped me get all the way up to 4th, but only the top 3 get paid.

Two of the top 3 had Harvick and one had JJ.

I passed a few guys, they took Jeff Burton and Jeff Gordon.

One other guy actually took Truex, but he was behind me anyway.

Nah, not much. Similar to the prize for this, really.

But it would've been nice to rack up another win for bragging rights purposes!

That sounds like a good NASCAR survival pool. Maybe I will spring this to the squares at work next Chase season. Maybe like a $25 buy in.

Did you do weekly winner payouts?

i ran a pool 5bucks a week, 12 people pick from the drivers out of a bucket of the numbers and whereever they finish in that race begins a runnning total, the highest finishing for each week wins 50 of the 60 bucks and ten goes to the kitty and the lowest overall score at the end, ie the best score wins 100 flat.

i was also in a pool where you have to pick the number of the car you want for each race prior to daytona, no duplicating picks and you just add where they come in, kind of like how yisman did but in reverse.

Just picking head 2 heads is going to get a bit droll after a while probably.

yeah, its really entertaining all season long, watching people use crap at the beginning and close late with the good guys

I did a similar football pool a few years ago, kind of a 3-in-1 contest....$10 week fee with $7 for a weekly pool, $2 for season long pool, and $1 for survivor. Could do something like everybody picks 5 drivers and get their finishing points for weekly scores and season-long scores, and also designate 1 survivor pick that must finish top 10 or you get eliminated. maybe 25 points a week with 15 for weekly score and 5 each for season and survivor. probably need up-front points for survivor or people tend to drop out though.
