At this point, the club is unable to confirm the identity of the player involved in this tragedy as family members are still being informed.

A group from the Port Adelaide playing group left Adelaide on Saturday for a holiday....Port Adelaide general manager (football) Peter Rohde is on his way to the United States to be with the players.

Most hotels in Vegas don't have balconies except for some of the suites, but I don't think any of the Flamingo suites have balconies either.

It's done because of people killing themselves... accidentally or not.

What horrible news. Footy just doesn't seem to matter much at times like this. I was watching Fox Footy last night and I had to turn it off. It just didn't seem right.

He would have only been in Vegas for 12 hours. Port Adelaide B+F awards were on Friday night.

It sounds like he might have jumped from the reports today:

McCarthy's girlfriend Dani Smarrelli has confirmed to the club that McCarthy called her less than two hours before his death in a confused and distressed state. He had become separated from his teammates and told her he wanted to return home and was heading for the airport. She then called girlfriends of McCarthy's teammates in Vegas, including Brett Ebert, Travis Boak and Hamish Hartlett, urging them to make calls to Las vegas.

Whatever the case. RIP J-Mac.

Its awful. Yeah he jumped or fell. I'm leaning towards jumped now. A lot of these AFL guys are pretty highly strung. Who knows what was going through his head at the time.

Might it have had something to do with being knocked back from a night club whilst his team-mates and Bulldogs players were accepted in? One can only wonder. If he was only in Vegas a few hours he might not have been that drunk or drunk at all.

Very sad news, looks like he just went too hard too soon in Vegas, pills, alcohol and coke are my guess but who knows.
