    Derby picks
Who do you guys like? The undercard at Churchill looks pretty shitty.

I don't have a good feeling about the Derby since I've been so cold lately, but gotta play anyway.

All the wise guys are picking the Calif. horses Point Determined, Bob and John and AP Warrior. What do they have in common? They all got trounced multiple times by Brother Derek. Now the 18-hole might hurt this horse, but I'm surprised every big capper is urging people to "throw him out."

He's been the most impressive horse all spring and I think he can rate off the speed and win this. I hate playing favorites but with all the negativity in the press, he might be 5 or 6-1 in this race.

I'm throwing in Private Vow as my longshot. Third start of the year and he's won over this track. Should be in the first flight heading into the turn.

My picks: Brother Derek, Private Vow, Bob & John.

I usually just miss on the Derby and almost always manage to hit the belmont and my pick is more for the belmont but I am playing him anyway. Jazil. There are alot of horses in this race and he will probably settle around 15th or so out of the traffic from the rail. His last race in the slop was really impressive i.e. about a 20 length close in the stretch. I have this strange feeling I will not get more than 15-1 on him but I will have $200 to win and place and also put him over anything baffert and a few more I like.

I haven't had much luck in this race either. I started betting it in the mid-1980s once I was old enough to hit the OTB.

I've only hit the winner twice. Cashed on Sunday Silence ($8.00) in 1989 and Funny Cide ($25) in 2003 (long drought!). I did hit the exacta and trifecta in 1997 with Silver Charm, Capt. Bodgitt and Free House (my WPS bet).

All the other years, didn't cash.

The knock on Brother Derek is he is used to small
fields and tomorrows big field might give him problems
some horses need to strech there legs.

Barbaro is a NICE HORSE!! Very nice he is my top
            pick.

Sweetnorthernsaint ran HUGE the other day and he
            is a must use!!

Longshot in the race is Keyed Entry!!

I like Point Determined, Lawyer Ron and Sweetnorthernsaint.

If Steppenwolfer wasn't crammed in the 2-slot, I'd like that horse a little more.

The idiots on ESPN earlier were saying Brother Derek was a good value at 5-2. I wouldn't bet him at 5-1.
The two horses I really like are Barbaro and AP Warrior.

                      Here's what I played:

                      $2 Exacta 8/5, 10, 11
                      $5 WPS on the 8
                      $3 WPS on the 10
                      $2 WPS on the 16

The 16 is a horse that is capable of hitting the board, but will be going off at a high price.
                      Good luck guys.

Congrats to the Barbaro backers!! Nice call.

Brother Derek ran a great race from the 18 hole considering his wide trip. He finished very strong in the middle of the track to dead heat for 4th. He was closer to the grandstand in the stretch than the rail. Don't know what happened to Lawyer Ron. He didn't run a step.

I'm comforted somewhat in that I knew the other Calif. horses were being so overhyped by the media, although that doesn't help my bankroll.
