    Help in betting tennis!
I am looking to expand my handicapping prowess into other sports besdies baseball, football and basketball.

I've never bet tennis before but am becoming more interested in doing it. So could someone give me a brief tutorial in terms of lines and things like that. I mean are the lines soft or are they sharp? Is it easy to make money from tennis? Any help would be appreciated...probably won't be betting tennis till maybe next year but would like some help.
    Thanks

You should take note of different books rules regarding retirements.

        BB,

Tacomax is correct. There are different rules at different books for tennis retirements. Two that come to mind that are the same are Olympic and Pinnacle. Both of these books require two sets to be completed before they will pay the winner (Men and women's matches)....others require all 3 sets to be completed while other's require one set to be completed and there are some that will pay the winner if one point has been played.

The difference in rules between books is very important if you are scalping but it's much less important if you're just capping.

I've done some research on tennis but haven't got any working angles at the moment.

I used to follow wta a lot (ladies tennis), when you watch matches on tournaments you can win I think. I don't have time this season to follow the tournaments but when I was doing that I realized that, it's about 35-40% tennis skills and 60-55% about recent form. It's very hard for a bad player to upset a big favourite on ladies (unlike on atp) and that makes it easier for betting.

My favourite tennis bets was the negative game handicaps bets for the favourites, but very few bookmakers offers them. 5 dimes, fonbet, betandwin few times. Eurobet and gamebookers only on grandslam tournaments.

Anyone know any other bookmakers who offers those kind of bets ?

I'll agree that it's very important if you're scalping, but it's still important if you're capping.

Nothing worse that losing a wager due to a retirement at a book where you were ignorant of the rules.

Retirement just means a match ending prematurely due to injury. It's pretty common if you bet a lot of tennis.

Books have different rules. Some books will void all bets if the full proscribed number of sets aren't completed. Some have "first ball" rules, meaning as soon as the first serve is made, the player advancing will win all bets regardless of what happens. Some books are 1 set complete, some are 2 sets complete.

You could just as easily say there's nothing sweeter than finding out you got a surprise void on a bet you thought you lost.

But sure, even if you're just capping and playing straight bets, you might as well know the rules where you are playing.
