    CFL Weekend
Barring major injuries I think I've got my picks for this weekend with a few thoughts to go along. Lines obviously subject to some change...

HAM @ BC (-3) Taking the points and HAM here. The Cats are not a super team by any stretch but they at least have some positive vibes going, while BC is searching for answers (if not Buono's job). Home field has not been a friend to BC for some time.

WIN @ TOR (-3.5) Some concern with WIN and the QB situation. Buck Pierce is quoted as saying he feels great and expects to start yet their third stringer took most of the reps this week leaves a big question mark. Being honest though, it hasn't been WIN's offence that has been really winning them games so I'm thinking their defence will grind another win out plus adding the points.

EDM @ CGY (-3) Big test for EDM with the Rivalry. I see a big disconnect between Burris and his receivers at present, with Ray and company firing hard. Easy for me to take the points and EDM even though it should be a hard fought game.

SSK @ MON (-11.5) I could probably go -14 on this with MON, even though I'm sure SSK will be coming hard to prove their HAM game was an exception. It may have been, but if you saw any of it it's pretty hard to scrub that off. If SSK is anything resembling that form against the best team right now it's going to be a brutal day for the greens.

Still time to go and all that but that's some of my thinking for now. Cheers and good luck.

Both HAM and BC actually showed some grit last night making it a pretty fun game to watch. Nice cover by HAM although I was somewhat concerned when BC pulled to even. Off to TOR, just double checking things but I feel fairly confident WIN +3.5 is a good wager today-especially if it's correct that Pierce is set to go at QB. Good luck everyone.

Wow, Burris and company are really misfiring. Should be better than they're playing right now but like I said, EDM and the points. Lots of game left-cheers

Three man EDM rush equals a Burris sacking? Wow, Henry is going to be some pissed. Fun game to watch!

What can I say-SSK got to Calvillo which of course is the key to a win against MON. Didn't see much of the game but once he was out it was pretty much all she wrote...Hope everyone did well this weekend. Cheers

Well, as I listed my plays in this thread my record is 3-1. I suppose unofficially (I didn't write about them here) I'm 4-2 with SSK @ MON and CGY @ WIN being the two losses. Reasonably well, I'm mostly just happy to have some football until NFL starts although I do enjoy the CFL. Cheers

Just looking at BC @ WIN. Like to go with WIN but the -3.5 makes me nervous on WIN's abysmal offense (yes, you're last in passing and rushing yet you're still fourth in points scored...). Obviously WIN's defense is taking them through games and it's one of the fun features about football that your defense can literally win you games. Usually you want your defense on the field as little as possible but in WIN's case I may reverse that philosophy. Anyways, the last BC/WIN game was super weird/fluky so I'm a little reluctant to give away 3.5 with WIN but BC looks damn awful and I can't make any real case for them in this game. Initial thinking is WIN -3.5 but I'd like -3. Cheers.

CGY @ SSK was a nice win. Didn't have time to write it up that I liked CGY (-2.5) against a Riders team that I felt was super-motivated to crush MON and hit a grand slam with Calvillo's exit. Hope everyone did well and had some time to enjoy the games with the summertime. Cheers

Thursday Play: MON (-4.5) @ TOR. Taking MON to win and giving the points. Thinking that MON will get back to their winning ways against an obviously struggling Argos team that will be led by (at the least) a banged up QB in Cleo Lemon. MON's numbers are not spectacular and neither has been their results the last few games but at this point I see it as a short downturn rather than indicative of major problems. The spread should be fairly reasonable to cover and TOR has struggled on both sides of the ball, home and away. Cheers and good luck.

Agreed on EDM -1 Buzzer. Their offense is undeniably good right now and although WIN has a defense that has been destroying teams, they have some injuries that will probably be a drag on that side of the ball. Buck Pierce has limited skills to begin with in my opinion and takes way too much punishment to realistically survive, much less play at top form. SSK @ BC I'm still working out and may be off entirely. My gut is to go with SSK and the points but I'm not sure if that's because I personally think Buono is a total clown. Cheers and good luck!

All right, I'm going with SSK and the points. Statistically both teams are very similar but emotionally and for wins you can at least point to SSK's win over MON. I'm sure they were jacked up to play that game but this probably adds to taking them tonight, as they have a history with BC as well with last year's semi's game. At any rate, with two pretty bad teams my thinking is to take the points and SSK with at least some proven (although limited) success this year over BC's empty promises. My gut would also be to take the over in this game since both teams have brutal defense but I don't play totals so that's just an aside. Looking forward to the EDM/WIN game-good luck all!

All right two losses yesterday. In my opinion (and I didn't see all of the games) but key fumbles on EDM and Pierce playing like a madman, with WIN defense doing their thing brought about a quality win for the bombers. SSK looked ill from the start and never got it going. SSK defense allowed Lulay and veterans like Simon the extra time and space to make those big plays that blew it wide open.

For Saturday, I'm going to give the 3.5 and take CGY for the win. I think Burris and company are hitting their stride although they haven't been particularly convincing so far. Rambo is out for CGY but I hear good things about his replacement Bryant and his previous work against HAM. I'm not sure Glenn stacks up super well against the CGY defense. The spread makes it interesting and should be a fun game to watch. Good luck!

That was an entertaining weekend. Hamilton did well against CGY for most of the game but I think the Riders benefitted from some penalties and showed some good poise. Cheers

Thursday Game EDM @ MON (-6.5). Interesting matchup here. My first thought was that Calvillo and company are largely back on track and should cover, especially with one of EDM's stars out (Stamps). Thinking it over though I think that MON's win over a brutal TOR team should be taken with a big grain of salt. EDM's last game saw them go up against the newly acclaimed Big Blue Defensive Machine of Winnipeg. All things taken in to account I'm going with EDM (+6.5) thinking that they can get to Calvillo enough to at least knock into that spread. Taking EDM on the moneyline would definitely take some guts/brass ones/craziness? Should be a stellar game to see and my thinking is EDM and the points takes it but I am considering the moneyline. Cheers and good luck.

Just for fun I put down minor coin on the EDM moneyline since it is such a great return IF it comes through. Although EDM has had some struggles against the spread on the road, MON has had their own challenges in that regard. Basically I have some concerns that a lot of faith is placed in the hands of Calvillo and if he shows signs of struggling (not being far and away the league best) it definitely becomes a toss-up game that puts MON scrambling to find answers. Grey Cup champs and all that I know but in my opinion it could be close but I realize it's a fair leap. Adios and good luck

Going with CGY (-3.5) against SSK. Rambo is supposed to be in the lineup for the Stamps and I see them covering the spread fairly reasonably. SSK's loss to BC showed their disarray and although they are supposed to have some new players I don't think they can make that much impact to turn the ship around. Good luck.

Just noticed my message had "Rambo in the lineup for the Riders" so the edit. Sorry for the confusion.

Tomorrow I think I'm taking 1.5 points with WIN and their defensive power. I get the sense a lot of CFL people are waiting for the sky to fall in on the Bombers but it hasn't happened yet and they're currently power ranked first which I would reluctantly agree with. BC has brought in Bruce, etc and shuffled almost everyone around which I personally think will be detrimental to their already struggling team. Need to try something I guess.

Also going with HAM and giving away seven points. This is a big spread for an "all right" HAM team but with the rivalry between the two, home field and very little going TOR's way I see one major as a reasonable spread to cover. Good luck.

Good luck Buzzer. It took a leap of faith in HAM but TOR is playing dismally right now in my opinion and the Cats are all right. WIN/BC will be a fun game to watch-trying to get to one this summer if I can work the schedule. Cheers

Well HAM vs TOR didn't go as well as I had hoped. Thinking back it was likely too optimistic for HAM, being realistically a medium level team right now to cover such a large spread with TOR likely playing for jobs at this point. Mental note to lay off a little more. WIN looking more positive against BC at this point and I did wind up taking them on the moneyline since it made a better return than the +1.5 but marginally. At any rate it was not the greatest weekend CFLwise but doing all right and the NFL preseason going well. Hope everyone did well-cheers.

Interesting game Thursday with SSK @ TOR (currently -2.5). Both teams are currently miserable and desperate for a win to begin some light at their respective tunnels. Part of me says that with two teams such as these it's better to take the points and go with SSK. However, I think QB Lemon and RB Boyd for TOR at least give TOR a base that they can work with and probably cover the spread. May be a game to lay off but in my opinion home field and a little more prospects give TOR my pick although this one could definitely go either way with bobbles, interceptions, etc. Good luck.

The Lions are obviously a team in disarray but I saw some flashes of good stuff their last game against WIN with the addition of A.Bruce and G.Simon's veteran and still excellent (even on this team) skills give Lulay viable threats. Line going down on BC from the open but I still think 5.5 is a great cushion against an EDM team with tons of injuries and a couple of recent losses to rattle their confidence. All around I think EDM is the better team but in my opinion if BC can start opening up the long threat of Bruce and Simon it gives them a lot of options. Going with the spread rather than the moneyline as I can't back them in this game outright-the points at least gives me a cushion to work with. Cheers and good luck-wonder if I'll even be able to sit through SSK @ TOR tonight...
