Championship kicks off in Atlanta tomorrow, field is loaded with 30 stout golfers, leader board is staggered to start the tourney with JT @ -10 filtered down to a handful starting at even, I think there's some value down the leaderboard. My guy all year has been Keopka, and being within 2 shots of the lead on a Thursday is perfect for him, he's at around +500 probably due to his last two outings ...no worries though, he's a big stage guy. Two more guys I like are Matsu and Webb....Matsu is a top five hound at Eastlake and once about a time was tearing up the PGA, guy shot 63 last week....not once, but twice !!!! yeah, he middled it with a 73, but two 63's says he can easily be the guy on Sunday...and @ +3300 ...I say why not? Webb is just a stud, he don't look like much but he's always hangin around, low fanfare, just grinding out Eagles and birdies and hanging around the top of the leaderboard, especially in big tourneys...@ +2200 I'll have some on him.....NOTE: only the top 4 golfers starting Thursday are under +1500, DJ is at +2500....this guy is probably the most talented golfer in the field, and could easily win this thing. Imo, odds are this way because of the unique format, normally you would see these type of odds on Saturday where the tournament has more than likely been whittled down to just a few possible winners, but here these guys have 4 rounds to make up the stagger....JT had a 6 shot lead on Sunday last week, and if not for a couple missed opportunities by Cantley, would have been sweating bullets on the 18th tee box....DJ made a run at Koepka earlier in the year from 8 strokes back, again, this just on the weekend.....these guys have 4 days!! Not saying that JT or any of the other top 4 guys under 10-1 won't win it, but I am saying that you WILL see guys below them making a charge.
SBR sportsbook has also been kind enough to post Championship odds (first time in awhile on PGA), so that's a bonus.
Disclosure: I 'chase' PGA tournaments, usually pick a couple dogs on Thursday, then hit the big boys that have had a bad round or two...it's really hard for these guys to play with a big lead, and they are definitely not used to having a lead going into Thursday, should be a great tournament with this format....15 million to the winner, I expect that will keep just about everyone motivated. I also parlay golf with nascar, generally only have a handful of legit nascar contenders each week, but hit or miss with 5D allowing the parlays, take a 25-1 golfer and a 5-1 nascar guy - $25 nets about $2500....
Apologies for the novel -
