CLEVELAND — The Browns are winless no more, and it cost them.
Cleveland avoided that fate Saturday by beating the San Diego Chargers 20-17 for their first victory in more than a year. San Diego’s Josh Lambo missed a 45-yard field goal as time expired, giving the Browns their first win in 377 days.
It was win No. 1 for the now 1-14 Browns, and may have cost them the No. 1 pick. If the 49ers lose later Saturday in Los Angeles and next week against the Seahawks, San Francisco would knock off the Browns from the No. 1 pick, due to their strength of schedule.
When the kick sailed right, Cleveland’s small crowd erupted in celebration and Browns players poured off their sideline as if they had just won the Super Bowl.
