Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday morning that they learned from their experience in 2007.
"It's an age-old question and certainly deserves to be a question: how much do you want to be playing well, how much edge do you want to have," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan's G-Bag Nation show [KRLD-FM]. "I know that in our [2007] season here with Wade Phillips, we had a great season and then we turned around and got into the playoffs and rested pretty good the last ballgame. And we ended up losing the first playoff game that we had with home-field bye all the way through.
"That's going to bear heavily, our experience there with Wade in 2007, will weigh heavily on any thoughts I have about who plays."
Dak Prescott is expected to start the final two regular season games.
But what if Jason Garrett wants to sit the rookie starter late in Week 17 against the Eagles? Who would then play the position, Tony Romo or Mark Sanchez?
"I'm not going to answer you because I don't want to get anything going here at all," Jones said. "So, let's leave it at that. But I have to pinch myself to think about where we are at the quarterback position knowing how critical a setback or an injury is to any position, but especially at that position as we look to this playoff, that would be very near the top of my list of what we've got at the position.
"No matter what comes our way that would be right at the top of my list for thankfulness here at Christmas."
