I haven't quite got the hang of Turf...in fact I stay away from it completely at this point with real money....so with that in mind, I have not placed anything real overseas in Austrailia or UK.

I have seen FullCardReports, but the guy on youtube reminds me of Ben Stein with his voice....its painful to listen too.

I have hit decent on Australia Racing...especially like the thick fields (15+)

Blindly playing huge shots is a grind....and I am not sure if its a profitable grind at that....

What you need to do is ignore the morning line odds and place your own odds on horses you like....if you are getting overlay play it, if you aren't don't.

Well from a math guy to a math guy...i have been messing with horses for years, I have been taking myself seriously for a few months....

A few profitable months though....

I try to look at it from a math point of view....my biggest problem with horses was simple....Time. I am a full time teacher during the school year. A parent of 2 1/2 kids (got my third due in three weeks). I don't have time to look over hundreds of races a day. Hell, I barely had time to cap Emerald Downs here in Seattle on days I went up to the track....it was frustrating. I found that if I had the time to do it, I did well.

About two years ago, I found JoeyP here on the web (might not have been SBR but somewhere) I started hanging (online) with him and a guy that went by UltimateSelector. I learned soooooo much from them two its amazing to me to think where I was before those guys. About six months ago a buddy of mine (math teacher) started talking to me about horses. We started geeking out...but both working full time jobs and both having families we couldn't do it.

Thus an idea was born....we realized that we were looking for the same thing over and over again, trying to find the horses.....with my technology background (I teach technology) and my knowledge of excel. could we write an excel spreadsheet to vet the races for us.

We now have the ability to download every race for any raceday we like into this sheet, and with three clicks, can 'run' a tracks races for the day. The spreadsheet produces a report for each race, based on the information we want and then vets the races for us. We then still have to manually look for value. But our computer now cuts our time by 10000%. In an hour, I can vet and cap 5-6 tracks with success. Then its just a matter of finding value come post time.

We are still in infancy stages of this to say the least. But we have seen success in the three months we have been really tracking it. Tweaking things here and there.

Not sure why I went on that big huge tangent, but hey....

For a beginner....hell I consider myself a beginner still. Read, Read, and Read. Focus on two or three tracks. The biggest thing that helped me, was to look at yesterdays races. Not tomorrows.

Cap yesterday's PP's, THEN check results. Keep track of how you do under different models.

Class (do you do better in stakes than Claimings....)
Distance (our system is destroying sprints, while breaking evenish in Routes. Breaking it down futher, I have stats on how our system does for 6.5f vs 7f, 8f etc.)
Surface (dirt, Poly, Turf)
Weather....

You start to keep track of things, its amazing how stuff starts to jump off the page....we have noticed things that have not worked, made small changes and are now successful or closer to successful.

Wow! Thanks for the long response. First thing that stands out from what u wrote is Excel. I only know a tid bit about it and not too much more pertaining to Sports Handicapping period or I could know more then I realize...lol

I was a mtg broker just shy of 8 years and did very well. Same girl 8 years...married 5 no kids.

I have started doing journal entries for baseball stats( stupid shit ...I don't know what I'm doing..lol) , and have purchased DRF racing cards in the past and messed with them but know only the bare basics.

Currently I'm reading Dave Litfin's " Expert Handicapping."

Will read more like u said and try to monitor your posts more. I have always been a night owl and that's how I bumped into the Australia's
