Favorites win around 30% so no. The most successful guys pick 4-5 races, bet place/show (usually on the chalk) BIG and then go home to study the next days card.

Next to impossible in the short term. Impossible in the long run. A system like this would have to have some conditions to be sucessful. You can't just pick any set of races and have the style of betting work. For example Cal bred two year old maiden races at Hollywood Park's spring meet have a winning % of about 50 %. Issue is they only run about ten of these races for the whole meeting. You could make a small profit with this, maybe. But the takeout is just to high plus you get the worst of it betting favorites.
Best way to play the horses is sound handicapping and inside information.
