    The Travers
Who do y'all like in the Travers. Leaning toward Stay Thirsty/Ruler on Ice. Do not think Shackelford wants the distance. Coil scares me, but Baffert hesitated on running him. He also might boune off last race. According to the sheets, Stay Thirsty ran a big one last time out in the Jim Dandy(also got a 106 beyer). I think he is coming into his own. Sired by Bernardini who won this race. Distance of 1 1/4 miles not a problem. He might bounce off last effort, but I will take my chances. Also got him on a future bet at 60/1 to win the classic so I am rooting for a good effort.

Ruler on Ice might be the best play considering the odds. Won the Belmont at a 1 1/2 miles. Has sheet numbers as fast as any horse except Stay Thirsty. Might get a good trip from inside post, whereas coil, Stay Thirsty, and Shack all break from outside. If track comes up sloppy, that's more in his favor. Belmont win might have been a fluke, need to check odds.

Finally, Raison D' Etat might be worth using underneath. 10/1 on the morning line and sired by AP Indy. Raced greenly last time out, but has a race over this track and got a 97 Beyer last out.

Should be an interesting race. Shack probably guns to the lead- can anyone catch him? I am betting them Stay Thirsty/ Ruler on Ice will.

    I like

    1st--Shackleford
    2nd--Raison D'Etat
    3rd--Ruler On Ice
    4th--Rattlesnake Bridge

Stay Thirsty has the fastest last race but the majority of the time I stay away from horses coming into the race off tops.Which steers me away from Stay Thirsty,Coil,Moonshine Mullin. and Malibu Glow.

According to the Thorograph sheets, Shackleford is also coming off a new top. He may be able to wire this field, but got to question if he has the stamina to get the 1 1/4.

That is what I use(Thorograph) and he is coming in off a Pair up.Its a small enough top that it shouldn't affect him while the others are coming in off big new tops.Rattlesnake Bridge comes in off a top but has enough rest to minimize the regression.

Also I think most of the people are going to use Shack's Kentucky Derby as a measuring stick and come to the conclusion that 1 1/4 is too far but that will only help his price. He would have easily gotten the distance if not for setting the pace on the inside while running on a closer friendly /outside path bias track.

Good point, except that Shack got slow splits in the Derby, and tired in the last furlong. In addition, he was caught late in both the Fla Derby/Haskell and those races were at 1 1/8. I have a feeling he goes off at around 5/1, whereas Stay Thirsty goes at around 2/1. If you really think Thirsty will bounce, you're getting good value with Shack. I think he guns for the lead, catch him if you can.

Not disagreeing with you.Stay Thirsty could be the one if he doesn't regress.I just think the way to go about betting the race is to pick between Stay Thirsty,Coil,Shackleford, and Ruler On Ice to use as a key. Then fill in underneath with some of the new faces and either key box or just key your top pick.My opinion is that with running style, figures, race shape, odds, and how the track is playing. That Shack is the most likely to be there at the wire if not win the race.

and the Monmouth track for the Haskell was playing the same way the Churchill track did on derby day.It is more of a reason to use Shack that he was still there with Coil at the end when Coil had everything set up for him.

if it rains and is muddy should be ruler on ice... coil is the wildcard here, not sure what to expect there but could be in the running. Stay thirsty will be there.. dont like shackleford in this spot

Should not affect the area until Sunday, I would be surprised if it is anything more than a depression at that point anyway.

i can tell you we are in a tropical storm warning and im 15 from the track. there is no way in hell they race tomorrow we are looking at over 6 inches of rain with 60 mph winds with gusts over 70. mark my words there will be no racing sunday, way too dangerous. we will have wide spread power outages with many downed trees.

Thats because the 3 yr old "classic" division is weak.. Sprinters and fillies are much more interesting this year..

The Factor came back and probably turned in the best performance by a 3 year old this weekend, dueled on the inside with a older horse, ran a wicked 2nd quarter and drew away.

Yeah, but the Factor probably can not hold his speed for a 1 1/4 distance like the breeders cup classic is.
