I don't understand how horses work - why does the following ticket pay .10 when i got plc for 3 and 5 right? Never tried horse race betting before, just wanted to learn a little. any help is appreciated. thx

ya, mate. you have to learn how to bet. You want bigger payouts, lay down more $$, bet longshots, or learn about some exotics.

It's not why bother betting, but why bother making a bet that pays .10

On the other side of the coin you can place a .50 wager that can win you thousands of dollars.

Look at the odds before you place the bet. I don't know what site you use but it should have an odds board that you can click on that will show the current payouts for each bet of the current race.

Generally, the place and show bets don't pay too well for the top few horses in the race.

Look at the results charts for that day on that track and get a feel for the types of bets and payouts etc...

I am relatively new too. You will be hooked once you get a taste of some of the high odds payouts
