If you want action and love the game try betting small increments to fine tune your craft. Try an online book like 5 dimes(25 cent minimums in racebook) and have some fun. Losing $900 over 34 races will sour you real fast to the great sport of horse racing.

don't really like the game at all was just at woodbine and i have a gambling addiction =).
But i notice the vig takeout whatever u call it is pretty huge and for a recreational bettor its seems next to impossible to turn a profit in long haul just my opinion i don't know enough though to say its impossible.

"takeouts" help pay the employees of the track and keeps the lights on. these things i understand , completely
now if there's a casino on the grounds or associated with the track you're playing i absolutely deteste/despise the takeout. with all the loot the casino's take in then turn around and give a % to the purse allocation there is no reason on earth they need to "takeout" twenty something percent of a pool.
take john230's advice and scale back your wagers till you get a feel for what you like (exotics vs wps bets vs pick 3's and 4's etc...)
to "churn" 900 clams in a day is ok and you might reap some cool rewards wagering that kinda dough but "losing" 9 bills in a day would be a tough pill to swallow.

don't get me started with baseball im down over 10k in baseball this sesason.
i think my short go at betting ponies is done. Too much work involved if i were to take it serious and i can't see myself making such a good profit.
I make my most money in nba looks like i might just have to take the year off.

you know what they say: ya gotta stick with what works for you.
i couldnt pick a winner in nba if my life depended on it
baseball last year was a $ maker for me (i LOVE betting hockey) but ive since swore off sports betting since the flyers/panthers game in dec last year. however, if the phils win the series i will have "risen from the flames" yet again. (nhl season bets cashed offshore after i swore off sports betting so i tried my hand at the ponies for a bit then dropped the balance on my Phils to win it all-at what sports book i could not tell you as ive had quite a few. ill worry about that after the parade down broad street)
but anyhow:
if ya ever wanna go blow a huno or so on horses be sure to check in here first. usually some good tipsters posting here

I bet at parx in philly. They have a 17% take. Most times I break even betting 5-10per race of a mix of wps and exotics. With a 17% take im content with a day at the track.

Hey those tickets look like mine somedays... its a grind. To make a profit in the ponies ... is by watching watchin watching races. Don't just follow your horse , look at what other horses are doing , getting brutal trip , got checked several times stopping his momentum etc then make a note of them and bet them down the road if they get a race that looks easier.
And when you making tickets make them make sense . I see so many people play just random shit like 1,5,8/1,4,6,11/1,3,4,5,9 the horses you like have to be sequenced somehow ... but i'm the king of 3/4 pk 4s
