Belmont 6-24 contest

so say last night the #10 horse was listed in PP #10....but then there were a few scratches. for statistic purposes, is he still in the #10 PP"? or does he slide up based on how many scratches there were?

they move when there is a scratch, so if #10 was in the 10 post and there were scratches say the 1 and 5 then the 10 would now be in post 8 , saddlecloth # is for wagering purposes only does not mean this is the post position however most the time they are the same.

lol....i know that.

my point is that its really difficullt to use post position stats as a handicapping tool - unless there is someplace that clearly lists the revised Post Positions after scratches. I have never seen that. i guess you can just do the changes by hand once you see the scatches.

sometimes you can almost all but throw out a horse from PP 8 and up on the inner turf routes at Saratoga. the first turn is super tight, and horses that get caught wide are toast from the outset.
