Personally - I don't like it ... I'm a straight up win-only exchange-wagering spot-picking bettor ...

This is right, win bets should only be placed in a n exchange, the disadvantage of tote betting when "low" takeouts are around 18% is huge.

I know of a man who has many $$$. ( self man business man ).

His theory in horse race business is... basically a tax write off because he does own race horses.

However, on days his horse does not race, he will take ONE HORSE.. lets say #3.

For the first five races the bet is 60 % Win, 40% Place, however, if the #3 is 8-1 or higher, the wager is 40 % win, 30% place, 30% show.. then he goes about his day.

Been watching this person for some time now and his system is just as good as high priced handicappers or "persons in the know"

Oh, he does not invest a lot of money on these horses.... the total is between $300 - $500. for the whole race card depending on scratches and if he comes back and plays his triples.

the 2-4-8 system is a deviation of my system which i used but eliminating the show bet because it chews up too much money on losses... i use the 2-4-0 for 3 races (18.00 loss if all three run out) if that happens i go to 4-6-0 for 3 more (30.00 loss on these if they all run out) now stuck 48.00 head to parking lot and go home if you can't get a 2nd in 6 tries it's not your day... or you can stay and go to 6-8-0 for 3 more and lose 90.00 for the day... if you can manage to hit one just keep boosting the ratio as you have funds available....just divide your bankroll by 3 and proportionately bet wp forever...

don't bet to show... it's too late in the game for that... prices often even with 5-1 or higher come back 2.40 -2.80 if fav's beat yours.. however you can get solid middle price to keep your bankroll intact... actually a far better systems is win-exacta instead of the place bet...4.00 win bet and 2 1.00 exacta boxes with your horse in both with 2 others... if you hit raise your bets to 6.00 win bet and 2.00 exacta box and 1.00 exacta box and keep raising it as you hit things or lower it if you lose...this way you can play horses under 5-1 and may get juicy exacta payout if you use prices...

i agree in the long run with a big bankroll win & exotics would out perform any method,

yes, you do... but the key is to throw out races with less than 8 horses... throw out 2 yr old maiden races which will soon be plaguing pic 3,4,5,6 bettors... also i strongly reccommend throwing out the favorite because you want to win the money that people lose betting on favorites... especially if you use the exacta instead of the place bet the payouts skyrocket with the chalk out... you must be strong and absolutely do not bet the race if you really like the favorite...
