yes, you must bet to win and then a couple of exacta boxes with that horse. and a couple of more exactas with that horse on top. example: 10 win bet on 1. then 1 exacta box 1-2, 1-3, then 1 with 2/3/4 for 2.00. instead of betting to place use the exacta box. this works takes patience and discipline. stay away from pik 3's pik 4's since they force you to bet unplayable races if they fall into the sequence. you should only bet vertically because it gives you control on which races to play.
