In an announcement made just moments ago from Del Mar Racetrack in Del Mar, CA, Mike Pegram has announced that he is buying Big Brown from AFS Stables for a reported $25 million.
"The agreement is fairly complicated, and we aren't at liberty to discuss all the details," said Pegram. "It includes preferential future breeding rights for the former owners, and some other things. We will release all details later this week."
Bob Baffert, who stands to train the new acquisition, said that he has spoken with Kent Desormeaux this morning and that Kent will keep the mount for now. "Our problems in the past are long forgotten", said Baffert.
Richard Dutrow could not be reached for comment. Calls to his barn were unreturned as of this morning, 1 PM EST.
