Does anyone profit from Horse betting?
Besides the house and in the Long Term? If so, how? Where can I find more information on how to become a successful handicapper at the track?

I've read up a little bit online and found that looking for key stats such as trainers winning percentage and jockey winning percentage are a good start. I've tried this at the track, with moderate success, my only issue is that usually by using this technique, we're picking favorites and not making much money when winning, but still being able to lose a lot when losing.

You can greatly improve your chances of profiting long term by not betting at the track with takeouts between 15-28%.

Exchanges like BetFair or sites that give big % rebates are your best chance, so bring your laptop if you're actually going to the races

Art makes a good point about the laptop.

I'm a harness player and look at earnings and % ITM and find some users for underneath in my Tri-Keys. I use any of the under 5-1 ML as my key. As far as info, I was told the best place was hanging around @ the track and listening and now with the turnouts usually small @ most tracks, I'd suggest a search for a book by Dave Brower for Harness or both.

      BOL and welcome aboard.......

Lastly, especially on a 1/2 mile or Mile Track I use the closing times.

I've cut my loses just playing the tracks that offer a 50 cent Triple or $1 Tri-key like....

I'm trying @ Monticello early Tuesday.......

      1st 7/34
      2nd 4/28
      3rd 3/48
      4th 1/48

Long Term, never happened to me in my 35 plus years of playing or anyone I know of.......... This 50 cent plan will keep me around longer

The Breeders are the BIG winners in this horse racing industry. That is why throughbred horses, the GOOD ones, only race thru the second year (3 year olds). Set track records, win graded purse races, then retire to the green pastures and wait for the mares to show up. What a life . lol

I love to bet horses ... Greatest action in the world for your money . Most players can't win for lots of reasons . The biggest reason is that most players are always laying odds on their bankroll , what does this mean you ask , I learned this lesson the first time I entered a casino, 99 % of players will lose more than they will win, It's that simple, something in the brain I guess .
Example ; Most players that get a few thousand winner act completely different , they act like they own the joint , they stop gambling. Now take the same player and lets say he gets loser for a few thousand , at this point the player as lost control , he may blow 20 thousand, point is that he will always lose more than he will win.
The best lessons in gambling is control your emotions and to have great disipline, also bring along a ton of patience.
Books may suggest these traits, but if you'er not built with them , you will never be a winner.

Good work if you can get it .
If you'er a horse , what's the odds on the good life , you know the green pasture crap or going to the glue factory. I venture to say 1,000 to one , probably alot higher , that you end up glue .
That's the real ugly part of horse racing that you don't see or hear about .
